Pete Belasco
Biography
Jazz-pop artist Pete Belasco began playing piano at a young age, later turning his concentration to saxophone. Both of his parents played piano as well. In high school, Belasco played in rock bands, but he soon became primarily interested in jazz and studied sax at Rutgers University and the Hart Conservatory. Upon graduation, Belasco relocated to Miami, playing saxophone and keyboards in local bands. He was also preparing a demo at the time, but was involved in a severe boating accident that broke both of his hands. For several months, he was unable to play, but in the interim he turned to composing and singing. In retrospect, Belasco has referred to the accident as a watershed experience because it forced him to develop his songwriting and singing skills. Belasco's demo made its way to Verve Records, who signed him. Upon healing, Belasco moved to New York to record his debut, Get It Together, which was released on Verve Forecast in the fall of 1997. The album was a concoction of influences such as Mose Allison, Marvin Gaye, the Beatles, and Van Morrison, along with jazzy pop and lounge music cool. His long-awaited sophomore effort, Deeper, appeared seven years later. ~ Erik Hage, All Music Guide

I own both Pete Belasco's first CD, Get It Together, as well as this one & they are both phenomenal, (check out Love Train off Get It Together). I just wish I could find more information about him - have never seen any appearance info, he doesn't have a website, etc. Pete - if you read this - your public wants you!!

Sounds good. A little slow for my taste in that particular song, but otherwise smooth to listen too. That was my first time hearing him. Wish I could see a picture of him. Soulful sound. Nice!

I CAME ACROSS HIS FIRST RECORDING FROM 1995 "GET IT TOGETHER" & I WAS IMPRESSED BY BOTH THE VOCAL PRESENTATION AS WELL AS THE MUSICIANSHIP ON EACH SONG. ON THAT RECORDING & THIS ONE, HE HAS DEFINITELY STUDIED THE VARIOUS ARTISTS WHO HAVE INFLUENCED BOTH HIS MUSIC & SOUND. WAY TO GO MR. BELASCO!

I really like Belasco because his music is very smooth. I enjoyed reading about him and it seems he has many talents. I found it very interesting that he turned his focus on song writing and singing when he broke both his hands; very touching. His sound is very relaxing and like someone else said he sounds a little like Curtis Mayfield with a different twist.

This artist is what smooth is all about. The songs capture the smooth in the day. Definitely something to drive home to. Too bad jazz stations don't play his music. Rate him right close to Alex Bugnon.
