Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth
Biography
Mt. Vernon, New Yorkers Pete Rock (a producer/DJ) and rapper C.L. Smooth emerged in 1992 as both a powerhouse performance duo and as prolific producers. Their 1992 album Mecca and the Soul Brother was a hip-hop classic with great cuts including "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)" and "Straighten It Out." They later collaborated with Mary J. Blige for a remix of her song "Reminisce" that effectively merged the two tracks in a re-edited hit. Their next album, The Main Ingredient, appeared in 1994, but they split for solo careers one year later. They also recorded many productions for both hip-hop acts and urban contemporary artists like Johnny Gill. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
Selected Discography

One of best hip-hop duos to have ever existed. Two albums just is not enough, I could listen to these cats every day.
One of the coldest tracks in Hip-Hop History. Only if they could have worked out their differences They had a good though.
Yeah I concur with all yall. One of my faves ever from the late 80s and early 90s. Mecca and the Soul Brother is iconic.

Based on the comments left on this page, I can conclude that all of us are "grown folks"!!!!! These artists have real talent. They made music that could go straight to radio; limited or no profanity. That's talent and brains!!!!

man im so glad i discovered pandora...I didn't even know music this solid and layered existed until I searched A Tribe Called Quest and Pete Rock and Cl Smooth
It's not Pandora's review, the review was done by All Music Guide, who I believe is where all the reviews are from. You could go to their site and take it up with them.
Pandora review people: I think you could do a much better job reviewing Pete Rock & CL Smooth. It's sort of embarrassing how small this little blurb is on them. They're a really important hip hop group and deserve a more thoughtful commentary. That's my opinion!!! And I only bother to mention it, because I'm enjoying reading your descriptions of other groups so much!!

CL Smooth put out a solo joint called American Me. It's the same CL Smooth rhymeflow. A solid release.
They haven't been the same once they split; just like Eric B and Rakim, Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, and a host of others. This was some hot stuff.
You can recognize that hook from miles away. the legend lives on! haha.
This style is desperately needed nowadays. This generation can learn a lot from these brothers. The perfect example of "purposeful flow". Very poetic!
Petersq there was definitely other duos that were more succesful than Pete and C.L. but none of them did their thing with the creatively, love and passion for their sound then Pete Rock and CL Smooth. 2 albums was not enough music from those two.
Sweet home loving Pete Rock and CL so clean so clear and the beats are so fat. I just purchased this album for the second time in my life. Once on cassette and now on CD and it is still phaat!!!!!!! ! ! ! !
