Phil Perry
Biography
A former member of the Montclairs, Phil Perry later teamed with Richard Sanlin in a duo that had a short stay at Capitol in 1980. Their first single stalled at number 81 and the album fizzled. They continued as songwriters and freelance producers. Perry issued his own LP, The Heart of the Man, for Capitol in 1991. It too fared dismally. Perry remained busy as a session vocalist, as well as a solo recording artist, releasing albums like 1994's Pure Pleasure, 1998's One Heart, One Love, 2000's My Book of Love, 2001's Magic, 2006's Classic Love Songs, and 2007's Mighty Love. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide

One night I was enjoying dinner with my wife at a place called "The Room At The Top". My wife said, Turn around slowly and look who is sitting behind you eating his dinner. Yes, it was Mr. Phil Perry. Later, after dinner, we saw him perform upstairs in "The Room At The Top". WoW! Wow!

In the 1980's I saw Phil for the first time. I had never heard of him. He did'nt have any albums released yet. Lee Ritenour intro'ed, this hugh man came out in an all white suit. He sang, "Amazing Grace" and split a note that simply, destroyed me. I never recovered. Of course, today I have all of his recordings. I'll never forget that evening at Sun Fest....

I heard Phil with Lee Ritenour. His voice is a pure octave above most r& b singer (if there are any left?). I pruchase a Laser Disc of Phil and Dav Koz Live at the Strand (Remember the Laser Disc?). Sold me big time!! I'm a big fan of this singer and my CD collection has grew in an abundance.

I first heard Phil Perry perform with, get this Will Smith! One of the craziest parings I'd ever heard. But Phil opened and brought the house down. Will and Jazz did their thing, but I became a hooked Phil Perry fan. It's amazing to me his early recordings were not critically better received. "Pure Pleasure" is one disc everybody should have or give as a gift to any R&B listener.
