Primal Fear
Biography
The European power metal combo Primal Fear has been kicking around the metal underground for years, refining their brand of melodic riffing and soaring vocals. Their sound, highly influenced by Gamma Ray (who has traded members with this band) and Judas Priest, was introduced on their 1998 eponymous debut. The following year showed them gathering a press following when Jaws of Death gained them positive reviews from most respectable metal critics. On top of that, their European popularity flourished as power metal enjoyed moderate success in the overseas mainstream. Nuclear Fire followed in 2001, leading to their first U.S. appearances in the guise of several large metal festivals throughout the year. They returned to the studio in early 2002, recording and releasing Black Sun by the end of spring. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide

World class stadium metal, In my opinion one of the best live bands ive ever seen also. The guitar sound is always simply CRUSHING!!! YES YES YES FKIN METAL!!!
Thank the Gods Ralf didn't get the Priest job, or we would't have this band. One of my favorite Power Metal Bands!
in my opinion, these guys are way more professional than judas priest. even though, priest is the all-time greatest metal band.the music is also way better produced than JP.
This band is like a mix of priest and maiden mixed its awsome
Makes sense, ale93. If I remember correctly, the lead vocalist was, along with Tim Owens, one of the finalists for Halford's replacement in the '90s.
Their song, Lightyears From home, is the defintion of Power metal. That song is what led me to create a station in which nothing but power metal would play, its still a work in progress.
I put them right up there with JP...Tate and Dickinson are good but they are not in the league as Halford and Tim Owens...RS is one BADASS vocalist...I stand corrected.
How can you Forget Church of Blood? That song rules. Primal Fear are a great band.
lol shadowchief "priest on roids" very true dude they got the killer vocals but their guitarist is better than judas priest, thats what makes them so un-f**king-b e l i e v e a b l e ! My favorites would have to be Revolution and Black Sun. Killer band.
the song...Armag e d d o n . . . o n e of THE sweetest songs by these guys ever!
The fact is the newest Primal Fear kicks the s**t out of the newest Priest...Dra w your own conclusions my metal brethren...
C.Brooks - I was at the show and saw Malmsteen and Tim Owens...Grea t show hopefully Ripper doesn't keep bouncing around but it's all great. I see Primal Fear may sound like Priest but it's only because of the vocals...but they still sound good.
dude, did anyone pay attention to the vocal layering? on some of the songs I can hear a frickin high-pitched vocals layered with the normal vocals. I don't really know how to explain it.
Great stuff. Sounds like early 80s Judas Priest. I thought only Ripper could sing like Halford untill now.
The reason everyone thinks they sound like Priest is because the singer, Ripper Owens, replaced Rob Halford in Priest for a few albums while Halford did the Fight and Halford projects in the late 90's. He is a great vocalist. The movie "Rock Star" is based on his story. He now sings w/ Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force. Check 'em out on tour. Unreal!
be cause of pandora i am aware of a lot of bands i never heard before but none of it is special this is special
It sounds to me like this guy emulates Halford's style a bit too much and it kind of makes me enjoy the music less.
Wow they do sound a lot like Judas Priest, and I thought that before I read that they were influenced by them.
Several times I have come in from BBQ to see who is in play window and it turns out to be Primal Fear. There must be a little magic there.
