Ratatat
Biography
Formerly known as Cherry, New York's rock-meets-electronica duo Ratatat feature multi-instrumentalist/programmer Evan Mast and guitarist Mike Stroud. Mast is also the brains behind the pretty laptop pop of E*vax, and with his brother E*Rock he runs the indie electronic label Audio Dregs. Stroud also plays, in the studio and on tour, with artists including Ben Kweller and Dashboard Confessional. Between these duties (and Mast's job as a graphic designer), the duo found time to work on their collaboration. Mast worked beats and song ideas in his bedroom studio, which he gave to Stroud to develop while the guitarist was on the road. Though Mast and Stroud began working together in 2001, things began to really come together for the pair in 2003: in May, while they were still called Cherry, they played their first gig; by September they changed their name to Ratatat; and that November they issued their first single on Audio Dregs, which had a limited run of 1,100 copies. Dates with Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, and Battles followed, and Ratatat signed to XL Records. The duo's self-titled debut album arrived in spring 2004, coinciding with another round of dates with bands including !!!, Electrelane, and Tortoise. Classics appeared in 2006, followed by a self-released remix album. Ratatat then took a different approach to their third full-length effort, emphasizing live percussion and keyboards while toning down their familiar mix of programmed beats and guitars. Recorded in several short weeks, LP3 was released in July 2008. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide

I don't know where these guys are coming from but they are obviously rhythmical geniuses.
RATATAT FOR THE WIN! P.S. Pandora probably hasn't put "9 beats" on the site because ratatat has probably sold the beats to a rap artist by now and so they don't have the right to. |
I wish Pandora would somehow manage to put their (never released) album 9 Beats on. I love that album.
LP3 is also great. |
I will be jammin' my pants off to Ratatat tonight at the Palladium for free. HA!

Unbelievably talented musicians. Ratatat has quickly become my favorite band over the past two years or so. I'm kind of disappointed by their recent album, but the rest of their work is just too strong for that to matter.
Thanks Pandora for rocking my lame a**! Also, I have to wonder if the LOL Cats were the ones leaving the messages below? (LOL Cats can't spell either)

Ratatat sounds so unique and awesome to my ears, it's one band I'm pretty sure I will never get tired of and I can usually listen to at any time. This is great stuff, most of it has an uplifting feel, and I would recommend it to anyone with an open mind for music. (It's a shame that all the previous comments were idiots hating on each other.)

Hoorah. Finally an artist comment area with nothing but great comments.

if you like these guys you have to get their remixes vol 1 + 2 they are friggin dank as hell
I went to these guys' concert in october. The concert was incredible and absolutely blew my mind. They played a ton of LP3, which I think is probably one of their best albums. They closed with seventeen years and during the end let off so much fog that the smoke alarms tripped and the fire department showed up. Crazy stuff, go to a concertt

Thank you, Pandora! Hooray for finding new bands. I love this type of music! MUST HAVE MOAR!
Yes, I've been looking for a place to try and recommend remixes vol. 2 by ratatat on here.
Yes, these guys are really good. Try "Bossanova" they are freaking awesome as well.
One of my favorite bands. Every CD is amazing. LP3, agreed is a little different, but good nonetheless. Everyone that I introduce ratatat to loves them.
Yes, their new cd "LP3" is fantastic... u n f o r t u n a t e l y when I tried to add songs from it to a Pandora station Pandora didn't recognize them.
Wouldn't 've heard Imperials on here, they don't have LP3 up yet. Also, I will second that LP3 is good, but more different than either of their previous albums are from each other.
facts for all - they had a song on the knocked up soundtrack. and now a rhapsody commercial.. . new cd good, cherry awesome. blew my mind. every song on every cd is good.
They have a new able out entitled LP3. It's really great stuff. A little slower and more groove like. As for the question below the only song I know of that starts with an I is Imperials. I don't know if this is what you're looking for but good luck.
