Rise Against
Biography
Chicago's Rise Against began in 1999 when ex-88 Fingers Louie bassist Joe Principe tapped area vocalist Tim McIlrath for a new project rooted in the sound and social vision of traditionalist hardcore. Joined by fellow 88 Fingers vet Dan Precision on guitar and, eventually, drummer Brandon Barnes, Rise Against signed to Fat Wreck and issued The Unraveling in 2001. Precision left the band that same year to be replaced by Todd Mohney. Extensive touring followed, leading to their sophomore outing, 2002's Revolutions Per Minute. After solid response from fans and critics alike, as well as a stint on the Warped Tour, Rise Against left the Fat Wreck fold for DreamWorks/Geffen. By this point, guitar duties were being handled by Chris Chasse (Reach the Sky). Rise Against made their major-label debut in August 2004 with Siren Song of the Counter Culture. They toured steadily after the album's release, received plenty of solid press, and even saw Counter Culture crack the Billboard Top 200. In 2005, Rise Against appeared in the skateboarding film Lords of Dogtown, playing an old-school Cali punk band. (They performed a rousing version of Black Flag's "Nervous Breakdown" for the film's soundtrack.
) Rise Against continued to tour throughout that summer, including a spot at the U.K.'s Reading and Leeds festivals in August. Their fourth album, The Sufferer & the Witness, appeared in July 2006 and its debut at number ten on the Billboard Top 200 was their highest yet. The band spent the summer tearing up Warped's main stage before hooking up with Thursday and Billy Talent that fall. Rise Against continued playing shows into 2007, but their extensive tour schedule eventually proved to be too much for Chasse, who bowed out that February. The band solidered on, enlisting Only Crime's Zach Blair to temporarily take his place. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide
Selected Discography
RPM would have been better if there was less screamo tracks like Dead Ringer, but it's definitely a killer album. It was a short album though. Short but sweet.
No, Sufferer was the "worst". Its not bad by any stretch, the the others are better. RPM is still the best.
I agree with you, Gordon, they should play more of their older stuff. By the way, Sufferer was not their worst.
ok well sorry bout that accusation then, someday.
It will be a crime in my new world order...
What gets me with Pandora is that it plays nothing but The Sufferer and the Witness (RA's worst album) and it never plays enough RPM or Siren Song. |
someday are you sticking up for the jonas brothers?? i don't know if that's a crime, but it sure should be.
I like Rise Against, but I don't like how often they appear on my stations. it gets pretty annoying.
ok, so the jonas brothers would be a better choice? Over played yes but they have enough songs to where they don't get old for a while...luck l y
I still like Rise Against...Pr a y e r of the Refugee is top |
For the love of Christ why in the hell does Pandora play Rise Againt 200 times more than any other artist...eve n if I liked these butt puppets I wouldn't want to hear them that much...
miley cyrus sucks a** but she's nowhere near as bad as th jonas brothers and their f**king purity rings...now THEY make me throw up in my mouth.
Thank gawd that all the kids at my school that are fans of miley cyrus are under the age of nine.
So that's why most people hate it when a band is signed to major label. RA used to be signed to Fat Wreck, where they came out with RPM and unraveling. Unlike other record companies, Fat Wreck is not trying to impress 12 year old girls (or really gender confused men) that listen to the Jonas Brothers.

Yeah, MTV and the radio are biased to rap, R&B, and pop. Whenever a musical genre (or band) is embraced by the mainstream, MTV sucks it dry, overproduces it, and plays it every 10 minutes. It's disgusting.
mil... cy....rus... . o h , god! i cant even type that name w/o throwing up in my mouth.
The capitalist pigs that own the radio stations won't have any free-thinkin g propaganda on the air. That my friend is precisely why you rarely hear good music on the radio...
they should so play more rise against on the radio wassup w/ the junk on pop radio anyways how could ppl like miley cyrus
i agree sgt. when i think of rise against i think of a band dat goes against th grain and isn't afraid of wat people think of them. they make music that speaks to your thoughts and feelings (not that i care bout that just an aded bonus). definitely not like the s**t u hear on th radio sometimes with all that jonas brothers and miley cyrus crap.
HERESY!!! RA is not, nor will they ever be, mainstream. Anyone whose says they are is one of two things: you are either sheltered from mainstream s**t and only think that RA went mainstream (you are a lucky idiot) or you know what mainstream is (e.g. the Jonas Threesome). Either way, you are still an idiot (and a heretic). I'll give you that Appeal to Reason is over-produce d , but its not a bad album, its not mediocre, but its no SSotCC or RPM...
dude rise against is the f****** s***, they have got me hooked and they change what ind of music i liked for the better. cheers to rise against
Been a fan for about four or more years. effing amazing no lie! Final Fantasy VII, Pokemon yellow and Rise Against blasting and you're all set! The new CD isn't growing on me very well though. But I guess to go mainstream you have to be softer
Weird, Rise Against is awesome, but how come only one guy has left a comment in the past week? Xen, what other bands were playing.
Finally got off my a** and bought their albums after I saw them live. F**king amazing, the mosh blew the hell up when they started into Blood red, White, and Blue. Unfortunatel y almost every other band was s**t, but Rise against was easily worth 20 bucks.
P.S. Similar artists my a**. OF COURSE, SURVIVE SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE PRETTY FLY FOR A WHITE GUY. |
You could change the Journey cover with Voices Off Camera. You get the point, RA rocks.

revised list: 1. Hero of War 2. Prayer of the Refugee 3. Ready to Fall 4. Under the Knife 5. Re-Education (Through Labor) 6. The Approaching Curve |
Now that I think about it: 1. Rumors Of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated (Best.RA.Son g . E v e r . )
Don't forget:
Swing Life Away Prayer of the Refugee Blood Red, White, and Blue Give it All Dancing for Rain Bricks Drones and The Approaching Curve. |
Replace "Life Less Frightening" with "Black Masks and Gasoline" and you'll be right on...
1. Rumors Of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated
2. Life less Frightening 3. Like the Angel 4. Under The Knife 5. Paper Wings |
4 best rise against songs in order:
1. Hero of War 2. Ready to Fall 3. Under the Knife 4. Re-Education (Through Labor) but that's just my opinion. |
sum 41 kicks a**! chuck = best album... well i haven't heard much from underclass hero, actually.
Just a note, guys. It's spelled "fauxhawks" because "faux" is the French word for "fake." It's pronounced like "foe," but in order to mean what it means (fake mohawk/lame attempt at mohawk), it needs to be "fauxhawk."
I looked into Bad Religion but there are a million CDs. I thought about getting some sort of compilation CD, but I have no idea what to start with. Too many choices, I panicked and bought Jethro Tull instead. BTW, whoever suggested Sum 41 - awesome. Thank you! |
Rammstein is awesome. And i'd imagine that RA is rising against capitalism (and the Bush administrati o n ) , animal cruelty (see the "Vegan" Vans shoes), religion (mainly the evil Roman Catholic church), and poor Timmy's girl problems... Tho the last one doesn't matter now that he's married...
