Royksopp
Biography
Norwegian duo Röyksopp compensated for the cold climes of their native Tromsø by making some of the warmest, most inviting downbeat electronica of the new millennium, exemplified by early singles like Eple and Poor Leno. The pair, Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge, both grew up in Tromsø and began recording in the early '90s. Local-made-good Geir Jenssen (aka Biosphere) provided tutelage and almost convinced the duo to record for R&S sublabel Apollo. After a few years apart, Brundtland and Berge met up again in Bergen and re-formed Röyksopp in 1998.
The group released a few singles on Tellé, then signed up to the big beat label Wall of Sound. The Röyksopp debut was 2001's Eple single; both "Eple" and another track ("Poor Leno") earned slots on over a dozen chillout compilations that year or the next. Their first full-length, Melody A.M., appeared in late 2001. After spending a few years performing live and remixing artists including Beck and Annie, Röyksopp returned with new material in 2005; the single Only This Moment heralded the summer release of the duo's second album, The Understanding, which featured more traditionally structured songs than their earlier work. The live EP Röyksopp's Night Out appeared a year later, and the third album -- Junior, their most upbeat set -- came in March 2009. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

ap-chowdhury , "Wimpy Sounding," "Even my girl thinks so", Can you sound any more retarded?

their first albums are really wimpy sounding and even my girl thinks so.

Being amazed at the use of a 2nd tounge is purely an American thing! But really, what other language does the World suggest as a viable alternative?
Really great downbeat stuff, It's amazing that they can sing in English.

Yet another band that goes un-noticed in the mainstream scene. At least here in the US. Kudos for us that know and follow this great music!!
Superb music of which is rarely heard. A few songs by them would turn around the mainstream radio to a point where shame would come upon them for not briging such music out mcuh earlier. I do beleive their own beats are to admire as one can see in a museum. The junior album so far is my favorite.

I just realized these songs are a lot like kick a** elevator music. Like, if elevator music was a genre, these guys would be a very good example of that genre. It's not bad, just very ambient and soft.
yeah... you'd think that if geico liked them you would hate 'em. USUALLY. i totally love these guys!!!
Music is part of my life. I love it so!I love to hear new artist songs and the one's that was before.
I will Miss hem so!! |
Every now and then I enjoy the uniquely sentimental rich; slightly campy; and always great european styled mixes--makes me want to jump across the pond!
I love the song So easy...cant help but nod my head along with it...also Remind me, the geico comercial actually turned me on to them. i heard the song in passing on my Telepopmusik station, and was like holy sh!t thats from that commercial with the caveman hahaha...
I heard about this group my senior yr of hs. my art teacher would always play art music in the bg and one day i asked her who this group was and eversince then, i've been their fan! =)
I highly disagree with that remark about the Geico commercial. Honestly, i didn't know that was Royksopp until i came across that song on my Pandora. If it weren't for Pandora i would never have known, i just would have thought it was a song that Geico made up or something. Because really all it is is one little part of the song, no breakdown, no bridge, no beginning and no end. It's pretty hard to distinquish that from just a short little keyboard part made for a commercial.
The lead's voice is like a lullaby. The beats are so easy-going and groovy that one can't help but have their spirit lifted. If there are any Norse folks out there who can help out with the English pronounciati o n of the group's name... I'd definitely be all ears! THX!

Ultra: it IS the singer from the Knife!
My song is 'In Space' from Melody AM |
what else is there is still my fave-only for the moment second fave...
Junior is amazing. And yet, I still want more of Royksopp, forever, and ever and ever. Pandora needs to add it. ASAP.
It (sorta but not really) sounds like The Knife and Kings of Convenience because both vocalists from these bands sang on tracks by Royksopp. And Geico did not make them famous. (Are they even famous?) They've been gigging for years and the Geico commercial came long after they'd been club favorites.

Frankie J why do you have to be either and artist or a sell-out. Your reasoning is flawed. They SELL music, whether to us or to an ad company, what's the difference? To complain because they get paid by an ad company while selling to us is stupid. If, as you say, they are an artist, they should give all their music away instead of selling it to us.

jstephenson7 2 says: Why cant I get any Vargo songs played on my VARGO station???
Coz Pandora does not have rights to play? |
I don't know anything about them but I like the songs I've heard so far.
I love this song but as an artist, I would never sell a song to a TV commercial unless I wanted to be a corporate sell out, you're either an artist or you do it for profit.
