He was born in Jackson, MS on 14 June 1941, and unlike many of his contemporari e s in the music business went straight to professional secular singing rather than graduating from a gospel group. His influences were bluesmen as well as gospel singers, and he did early gigs with people like Jimmy Reed and Clyde McPhatter which must have been an education in itself.

I wish Pandora had the Texas Sam Baker. "Slots" is one of my all time favorites.

Wrong Sam Baker. The Austin Sam Baker is one of the greatest songwriters alive. This Sam Baker is dead.

Yeah, I was just searching for the Sam Baker from Austin, "Mercy", "Pretty World", folk singer, okay, the white one... Nothing against this Sam Baker, but I'd really like to see the other one on Pandora

The song, Still Playin', mentions so many great blues songs and blues lines, I just love it. Everytime it comes on, I stop and listen.

The Sam Baker singing this tune is from Texas- he's not
the same "Sam Baker" listed above- This one is white, the other is black....... . . . . |
