Sarah Brightman
Biography
Broadway star Sarah Brightman was the inspiration behind such stage hits as Phantom of the Opera and Requiem, written in her honor by ex-husband Andrew Lloyd Webber. Born August 14, 1960, in Berkhampstead, England, Brightman began dancing at the age of three, and ten years later made her London theatrical debut in Charles Strouse's I and Albert. By 1976, she was a dancer on the television series Pan's People, and later led the pop group Hot Gossip, which in 1978 scored a U.K. number one hit with the single "I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper." In 1981, she was cast in the role of Jemima in Lloyd Webber's Cats; there she and the composer were introduced, and he divorced his first wife to marry her in 1984. Their relationship lasted through 1990, during which time Brightman created the role of Christine DaaƩ in Phantom, also appearing in Requiem and Aspects of Love; after their divorce, she toured in The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber: A Concert Spectacular. In addition to her stage work, Brightman also recorded a number of solo albums, including 1988's The Trees They Grow So High, 1989's The Songs That Got Away, 1990's As I Came of Age, 1993's Dive, 1995's Fly, and 1998's Eden.
The following year saw the release of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection, which featured some of her finest moments from Lloyd Webber cast recordings, as well as The Songs That Got Away. Luna followed in the spring of 2000; Encore appeared the next year. Brightman then adopted a Middle Eastern theme for her 2003 release, Harem. Love Changes Everything: The Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection, Vol. 2 arrived in 2005, followed by the CD/DVD Diva: The Singles Collection in 2006. In 2007, Brightman appeared on BBC One's Just the Two of Us and performed at the Concert for Diana, the Shanghai Live Earth show, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The following year saw the release of Symphony and an appearance in Repo! the Genetic Opera. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

Her voice is so pure and rings like a perfect bell. It's much sweeter than most operatic voices and that gives her more range of music to perform. The first time I heard her voice I had chills it was so beautiful. I don't know or care about her divorce from Andrew Lloyd Webber, another very talented person. We saw Cats three times we were so enchanted by it. I only judge the voices and the music.

Sadly enough, an attitude like that can turn even the most hard-core fan away form any artist.

Thank you, zookzs! I wondered who it was that sang the opera in The Fifth Element!
I understand that Sarah & Andrew had issues in the past, and it's disappointin g that she still brings it up. I think her voice is one of the most pure & beautiful ones ever, but it sucks that she's got the attitude. |

Jason, that was NOT sarah brightman. Honestly, I saw her in concert, and she was an egotistical diva. not at ALL impressed. Her voice is subpar compared with other classical sopranos. Her attitude was the worst, though. She spent the entire concert dissing Andrew Loyd Webber. >.<

Sarah Brightman is an amazing artist and as a long time fan I can tell you she was actually not the artist who sang Diva Dance, Jason. The singer is named Inva Mula-Tchako. Glad you enjoy Sarah though!

first time i heard her was in the movie "the fifth element". i couldn't believe someone with such a classical voice would be willing to do a song like "Diva Dance". absolutely beautiful with a driving force. still gives me chills.
"Deliver me" is my number one song, it delivers me from sadeness. Thank you, Sarah!

I have been Sarah Brightman's Number 1 fan for almost ten years, I went to her concert last year and I had a great time listening to my Number 1 soprano perform, You Rule Ms. Brightman!!! Your voice is my 'Symphony'!
A very divers person, deep, lovely, knows life in all its facets, and one of the clearest voices ever. Wonderful!
She sounds amazing. I really like her. She looks kind of creepy in the picture up there :D I love her though this song is pretty cool. (scarbroroug h fair)
PS. She was totally incredible in Phantom of the Opera !! <3 <3 |
Loved her in Repo! I would love to see her in concert hope she is coming to U.S. soon would love to hear that voice in person.
Fleurs du Mai is a great song. Oh, how I would love to see Sarah Brightman do a duet with Tarja (ex-Nightwis h ) . That would be totally awesome.
to tretadp i think the ffemale classics would definately have to include whitney houston ( pre bobby brown) and karen Carpenter
that note she hits at the end of 'Phantom on the Opera" is amazing i wish i could hit that but im close
I love that her bio mentions Repo! The Genetic Opera :D I just watched it the other day and came to mention it! While it's certainly not everyone's taste it's a pretty special little movie!
I've been listening to Sarah Brightman pretty much since I started using Pandora 2 years ago and I fall asleep to her soothing music and artists like her on my Blue Music station nearly every night... and I sleep very well :D |

Any compliments about this beautiful women's voice are honestly insufficent.
In my mind she is a classic and always will be. The only analogy I can think of in a true pop classic sense as well as true classic would be the man Andrea Bocelli, close second would be Josh Groban. A close second for a female maybe Kathryn Grason. I'm Dominick T. (72) |

I have seen every thing she has played in, and she has a beautiful voice. In fact, I can barely put it in words, she has a more beautiful voice. I luuuuuuv her in everything Broadway. She is my hero in Broadway! She is my Favorite singer ever. :)
Man, i love pretty much everything she's been in. She's got this really strange voice, but it's also beautiful...
Her lilting soprano voice is enchanting. Sarah Brightman is truly a diva of the highest order.
I really love her music but the picture (I believe) is an awful representati o n of her. There are a million pictures that represent her and her music more accurately.
We have enjoyed the singing of Sarah Brightman through PBS. It will be nice to hear her and others on Pandora
