Serj Tankian
Biography
System of a Down founder Serj Tankian was born on August 21, 1967, in Beirut, Lebanon. He and his family immigrated to Los Angeles in 1975. He studied marketing at California State University and started his own software company before beginning his music career with the formation of System of a Down in 1995. In 1998, System of a Down signed on to Rick Rubin's American imprint, and over the following seven years released five well-received albums, the second of which, Toxicity, thrust them into the forefront of the metal community, garnered a Grammy nomination, and sold millions of copies. Tankian utilized his success to influence the political world he often commented on lyrically by co-founding a nonprofit organization called Axis of Justice with Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello. He remained active with System of a Down throughout the mid-2000s and also released a book of poetry, titled Cool Gardens, before SOAD chose, in May 2006, to go on hiatus of an undetermined length. Tankian made use of this sabbatical to record his first solo album, Elect the Dead, which was released in fall 2007. ~ Gregory McIntosh, All Music Guide

I prefer Empty Walls to Elect the Dead--I really liked the video to the song Empty Walls.

Serj is one of my favorite artists. I am glad that he has gone solo, yet would like to hear some more from SOAD. Serj has done awesome with Elect the dead! My favorite songs are PTLPTA and Money. They both have awesome videos on Youtube.

if you don't like someone, just leave it alone and stop spreading hate. just comment positivly on bands you like instead of commenting negitivly on bands you don't. personally i like tankian, but that's just me.

You have to have a weiner in order to slam it in a sliding glass door . . .
I'd rather slam my weiner in a sliding glass door than listen to this guy again.
Give it the thumbs down or block the artist for crying out loud.
This man is a legend none the less great songs with an amasing voice its just perfect.
I wonder what would happen if him and Mike Patton got together - throw in a little Buckethead for flavor while you're at it.
I mentioned on the SOAD blog that if you like Serj's solo stuff you might want to check out a side project he did years ago called Serart. I pre-ordered the CD before it was released & got it signed by Serj!
Ahh! Vicinity of Obscenity! Ah I love that song! Even though this is the comment board for Serj, that song is worth talking about it on it.

I miss them, too. I tried to listen to Scars on Broadway & they stink.
Hes good by himself, but S.O.A.D. combination of lyrical genius and sometimes melodical metal sound was ultimately better.
