She Wants Revenge
Biography
Los Angeles DJs Justin Warfield and Adam "Adam 12" Bravin formed the moody, Joy Division-inspired She Wants Revenge in 2003. A fortuitous combination of word of mouth, industry connections, and airplay on Sirius Satellite Radio and West Coast airwave giant KCRW provided the duo with enough exposure to snag a record deal with Geffen, resulting in a 2006 self-titled release that has drawn comparisons to Interpol, early Depeche Mode, and the Bravery, as well as their aforementioned eternally depressed post-punk heroes from England. After touring with Depeche Mode, they returned with 2007's This Is Forever. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide

Reminds me of Spahn Ranch for some reason. Even though they aren't remotely the same...

i'm going to agree with brittonsmith 5 . n i c e try at peter murphy.i' still diggin' it.i guess i just can't let go of the late 80s.
Uh Hasn't Bauhaus already been done? Sorry bad Peter Murphy rip off and last time I checked Daniel Ash didn't play in the band. Sorry nice try "She Wants Revenge".

My tastes have long been rooted in Depeche Mode, but "These Things" pulls all the right strings - recognize a great track when you hear one.
they have the weirdest sounding voices i ever heard!
Though inspired by Depeche mode and others similar, I think they also have their own sound and creative and interesting lyrics! Awesome band... I can't wait to hear more!
Depeche Mode sounded sweet. This, Interpol, and every other fucktard trying to do the dark-talky-t h i n g for vocals sounds like a douche.
I take it back though, Cake sounded decent until that tragedy of a single long jacket or whatever. That damn naked emperor. |
this song is so me...like a darker culture/choi c e of music generally, but this song describes me to a "T"
Definitely have some strong influences, but these guys are in my top 10 because they have the perfect balance or darkness and musicality.
I'm with you longfade. Especially with the vocals, you can tell this guy was influenced by the 80's. I'd rather play some Depeche, Joy Division or even some synth pop. Good effort from teeny boppers.

amazing band, I love the voice and the electronic/b a s s instruments are amazing. Love the melody, so dark and yet light hearted at the same time. I can't wait to hear more from this band.

This group is a big departure in styles from Justin Warfield's earlier solo rap album (but it was more melodic and creative of an album than most rap at that time). It was very a-la Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, Boogie Monsters. Not too hard to see the incorporatio n of an alternate music styles by Justin Warfield as he presents today.

I guess if I were 14 and had never heard Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, New Order, etc. I might not hate it. But since those other bands did this 25 years earlier and much better, I see no point in ever listening to these guys again.
i love these guys. they're pretty awesome at the music they play. one of my favorite songs is Tear You Apart.
I have been a fan of these guys since I first heard Tear you apart because I am a big Joy Division/Bau h a u s fan and I heard both in their music. I've seen them several times in concert and they put on a good show. As the crowds have grown, I've seen Justin stop the show because the mosh pit got too rough, these youngsters don't know how the pit is supposed to work but it was nice that he rescued someone and had the offender thrown out.
Meh, forget u guys these guys r good they're music has a chill and mellow tone/attitud e to it that u rarely get from other artists yet with a refreshin semi upbeat melody these guys r unique forget the rest of u blindly hating on them.
Wow, this was refreshing to hear. After listening to Depeche Mode and The Faint for some time now, I found something else to round out a play list.
At first I really couldn't stand these guys and one of the songs I accidentally left on my MP3 player and it came on and caught me completely by surprise. I remember the song really got to me and I kept replaying it and have not stop listening to them since. The track was called "Rachel" and the line
"What if this does not belong to you / And all the things you thought were true / Turned out to just be someone else's lies" struck me as quite profound for pop-music. |
I had a friend in the army who got stuck in Tokyo (and is to this day)introduc e me to these guys. The first time I heard them, I wasn't impressed. But after a couple of weeks, I heard "Tear You Apart", "Broken Promises for Broken Hearts", and "These Things". As I began listening to them more, I started to really enjoy their music. It's something I had to get acclimated to, but I love them now. .
They're better than most of the pop fluff on radio. I give 'em credit for finding a way to make more money than I ever will, legitimately - for that alone I give 'em enough respect to give their music half a listen-to. And you know what? It's not bad.
D: Holy crap! What's with all the hate? They aren't the greatest, but some of their songs are all right.
I remember that I disliked these guys somewhat when I heard them on the radio. Then I saw their photos and came to understand what a couple of shallow posers they really were.
Seriously, look at that guy! Don't you just want to accidentally back over him in a parking lot and then drive off? (If you say no, you probably can't drive anyway.) |
After I saw them open for Placebo, I fell in love. Don't care if they're not "original" - they do it for me in ways that Interpol and Depeche Mode cannot.
I love the drummer Scott! But the lead singer's voice reminds me a lot more of Bauhaus than Joy Division.
Wow, that was a lot of "sucks". I personally enjoy their music, although I agree they are no Interpol, or Joy Division for that matter.
However, I would definitely check out the video to Tear You Apart. Joaquin Phoenix directed it: http://www.s h e w a n t s r e v e n g e . c o m / i n d e x . c f m ? n o C a c h e = 0 . 2 7 2 8 2 7 4 2 2 1 4 8 |
