Shinedown
Biography
Melodic hard rockers Shinedown hail from Jacksonville, FL, and originally featured vocalist Brent Smith, guitarist Jasin Todd, bassist Brad Stewart, and drummer Barry Kerch. Snapped up by Atlantic Records during the early-2000s flurry of post-Creed and Nickelback signings, the group released its debut album, Leave a Whisper, in 2003. Whisper ended up doing quite well for the band (eventually going platinum), aided by its single, "Fly from the Inside." Shinedown also supported it with a heroic slate of live shows, remaining on tour for most of 2004. The following year the band issued a live album documenting those shows, then returned in October 2005 with its sophomore effort, Us and Them, which went gold. The band underwent a few lineup changes in the years to follow, re-emerging in 2008 as a quintet that included Smith and Kerch along with guitarists Nick Perri and Zach Myers and bass player Eric Bass. The long-awaited Sound of Madness, featuring Grammy-winning producer Rob Cavallo (Goo Goo Dolls, Green Day), arrived in July. ~ Ed Rivadavia, All Music Guide
Selected Discography
I have to agree with Shawn Plante. I just saw them in Alabama, and people would walk away between songs to get drinks, etc, then come back when the music started back up. Loved the music, ignored the talking.

Wow I like this. Its so hard to find bands and artists you like. And then its like only one song on the whole albums any good! Not these guys ^_^ *Is happy*

Hands down the best live show I've ever seen. If you ever seem Shinedown live you will understand. Its more than just a concert, its a ****ing experience!
Saw them after the release of Leave a Whisper and just recently after the release of The Sound of Madness, both shows equally amazing. The amount of emotion and energy they put into everything is inspiring. |

Seen them live 5 times, met with the original line up over the past few years. Leave a whisper is the S$%^. Like the new CD what little I have heard of it. A Must band to see live if you don't then you have just one of the best acts on the road. Best Wishes to Brad and Jasin. Peace.

Ever seen them live? Be prepared for 5 minutes of rhetoric from Brent before each song. Great singer...the chit chat is intened to be "intimate" but it's a buzz-kill. Some people left the show at the Myth in Minneapolis because they couldn't take all the small talk. Great show - very energentic YOUNG backing band with kudos to the lead guitarist - love to see them again...but try some good-natured raillery or bantor instead of a lecture. 12 more records and a Knight-hood and you can be Bono.

Great band, I've been following them for about 2 years since seeing them sing
"I Dare You" on the Craig Fergusson show. Brent Smith has an awesome voice, especially sounds great on the songs "Atmosphere" and "Shed Some Light". Their new album rocks, get the bonus tracks!! |

I think I have the answer to your question. Shinedown has been compared to lynyrd skynrd in rolling stone and they re-did simple man. And they say that shinedowns roots are based in blues and classic rock.

I have a question, how in the hell is Shinedown similar to Marshall Tucker Band???? I'm listening to my Marshall Tucker station and Shinedown came on. Not that I don't like them, I just don't want to hear them mixed with my Tucker/Skyny r d / C r e e d e n c e etc.. Peace!!

Yeah, I just sample "Sound of Madness" in its entirety. It's effing amazing. The first single, in particular, "Devour", kicks some serious a**.
The band, overall, is fantastic. For a while, though, I was afraid they hadn't garnered enough attention. I'm glad to see them doing so well. ^_^ |
