Shiny Toy Guns
Biography
Although formed in sunny California during the early 2000s, Shiny Toy Guns' music flaunts a sleek, '80s-influenced combination of synth-pop and electro-clash. Founded in 2001 by bassist/keyboardist Jeremy Dawson and guitarist/vocalist Gregori Chad Petree -- both natives of central Oklahoma -- the band's lineup was fully realized with the addition of vocalist Carah Faye Charnow (who was brought aboard in 2004 to replace the departing Ursula Vari) and drummer Mikey Martin. After building a local following in California, Shiny Toy Guns made its debut in early 2005 with We Are Pilots; the album was then re-recorded and reissued later that year, albeit with a slightly different track list. Extensive touring and networking on various Internet websites continued to broaden the Guns' audience, and the group signed a contract to Universal Records in June 2006. That year also saw the third (and final) release of We Are Pilots, this time issued with the help of a major label. The album fared well commercially and critically, eventually earning a Grammy Award nomination for "Best Electronic/Dance Album" in early 2008. Carah Faye Charnow left the lineup later that year, claiming that the group's male members had booted her out, while veteran vocalist Sisely Treasure (a former member of Cooler Kids, as well as a finalist on the first season of the Pussycat Dolls' reality show) was enlisted to replace her. With the new lineup intact, Shiny Toy Guns released its second album, Season of Poison, in November 2008. ~ Rob Theakston & Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide
Selected Discography
Dark Angel- Major Tom is a fictional astronaut created by David Bowie, appearing in his songs "Space Oddity", "Ashes to Ashes" and "Hallo Spaceboy". Peter Schilling's version of it got heavy radio play as well. STG version is merely a cover, albeit the best one I've heard yet imo. LOVE it!

Speaking of... why the hell isn't Garbage a Similar Artist on here? Seems like a no brainer, no?
So many great songs!!! They remind me of Garbage in that sense (multiple GREAT songs) along with the female vox. Both put on top-notch superb performances . Both from obscure states- Wisconsin and Oklahoma, etc. I could definitely see Shirley and whoever STG has singing now rotating between the two groups and fitting very well in each respective band. Yet, at the same time they're both VERY distinct. Love the hell outta both! :)

I saw their album Season of Poison earlier this summer. why didn't I buy it when I had the chance? oh well... :/
mysasigirl- you must be very new to music to make a statement like that.
Hands down the most sophisticate d and emotionally intelligent band in the US if not the entire planet. Every song is powerful in its own right. Cheers Shiny Toy Guns. I smile every single time I hear you... you can only imagine then how much I play your CDs. :)

Are you ever in a depeche mode? whenever you are; just listen to this band.
People are people, and we all need to hear more bands like THE SHINY TOY GUNS. Look this wicked world can get you down sometimes, but not for long....the songs you hear ON these 2 albums are made to comfort you, first your handed a box of puffs plus lotion added tissues, then you find yourself throwing the puffs all over the room. LovE this band, like a lemonade stand. |

le disko is the ONLY good thing by these guys. the dude's vocals are cheese and very hard to listen to-like nickleback or creed. carah's addition to the group-especi a l l y in le disko-dance, edge. not puss rock highly polished turd.
Shiny Toy Guns is an amazing band with Carah. We are Pilots is one of the most perfect albums I've ever listened too. They are not the same anymore. Shame. Such a shame.
They're latest CD (Poison) is soooo good! Lots of development from the last, so I understand if fans of their first CD feel left out. Sisely Treasure freakin' rawks!
Oh well! I really liked the Pilots CD, Poison really shows the band as artistic. Change of keys in the middle of song, something that you don't hear from other bands. They combine some classic Pink Floyd in this album, and some great engineering to have little or no pause between tracks, classic Moody Blues stuff. I say keep up the good work!!
