Thanks Stephanie. There is a fantastique! French Trio called Hadouk featuring Loy Ehrlich (Bass, keys, things) Didier Malherbe (DouDouk, wind, magick) , Steve Shehan (percussion, including Haung, brooms). They have a great CD/DVD Baldamore on which Shehan plays the Haung. Think it is also used on the cd Utopies which includes Jon Hassell on a cut. Great stuff.

Thank you stephanie e baxter for your insightful knowledge on an instrument I have never heard B-4. I am taken by it's sound. I like steel drums but their sound is somewhat different...

This popped up in my station unexpectedly and I thought it was beautiful. A very nice find.

The instrument is a Hang,(haung) . They are made in Switzerland and are similar to a steel drum, except that they have a curved top which is tuned. I talked to a woman who had just purchased hers from the couple in Switzerland. She had to submit a letter to them explaining why she should get one. She went to visit and I think she actually stayed with them before she got her drum. There are some interesting YouTube video's of people playing/play i n g around with them.

Is the instrument being played a standard steel drum or the very specially engineered and limitedly available drums being made by a couple in Switzerland (?)for just the past few years.

"Flood" is a fluid steel drum blend of Gamelan and Carribbean sounds that reminds me of water - it is lucid and buoyant. Made me look into purchasing the album.

I have not seen another Hang Drum recording -- glad to find this! Check out Matt Venuti, too -- a very exciting instrument, played in the right hands...

Reminds me a bit of Steve Tibbets, I can't remember the album name. Beautiful stuff, this, and that.
