Skid Row
Biography
Skid Row was one of the last hair metal bands to hit the mainstream before grunge took over in the early '90s. They were also arguably the last of such bands to have any originality. While their 1989 self-titled release used standard pop-metal riffs and contained a handful of generic lyrics, 1991's Slave to the Grind and 1995's Subhuman Race broke away from the pop-metal mold with uncharacteristically hard, thrashy guitars and more unique songwriting while still relying on varying '80s metal formulas. Though personal differences and changing trends would eventually tear the band apart by 1996, Skid Row showed a tremendous amount of promise during their short run in the mainstream.
Skid Row was formed in 1986 by bassist Rachel Bolan and former Bon Jovi guitarist Dave "The Snake" Sabo. The pair added guitarist Scott Hill, drummer Rob Affuso, and vocalist Sebastian Bach to the lineup by early 1987 and the band spent the next year and a half playing a series of local clubs in the eastern U.S. Still in contact with Jon Bon Jovi, Sabo convinced the established rock star to land Skid Row a record deal with Mercury. In 1989, the band released their first album, Skid Row, which went multi-platinum on the strength of the Top 40 singles "18 and Life" and "I Remember You. " Success was not without backlash, however -- the band had naïvely signed away much of their royalties and Sebastian Bach's childlike behavior would land the group in additional trouble. During the subsequent tour, Bach received harsh criticism for a T-shirt he publicly sported displaying the message: AIDS KILLS F*GS DEAD. Suits were also filed against Bach after a concert during the supporting tour, where the singer allegedly threw a glass bottle into the crowd, injuring a young female fan.
Nonetheless, Skid Row retained a devoted audience. 1991's Slave to the Grind debuted at number one on the Billboard chart, an unprecedented accomplishment for a metal band. While the album did not chart any real radio hits, Grind received stronger critical praise and would eventually reach platinum status. Like so many of their peers, Skid Row lost much of their fan base during the grunge phase of the '90s. As Nirvana stormed the scene in 1992, Skid Row took a hiatus, waiting out the grunge period and pondering breakups (ironically, Nirvana had once gone under the name Skid Row in the '80s). Skid Row returned in 1995 with Subhuman Race, which surprisingly charted in the Top 40 but otherwise did not attract any real attention.
During the supporting tour, tensions between the group members ran high and Skid Row disbanded shortly afterward. Bach went on to form the Last Hard Men with Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, but the group broke up after recording a cover of Alice Cooper's "School's Out" for the Scream soundtrack in 1996. Plans to record new songs for the Skid Row greatest-hits album, 1998's Forty Seasons, fell through, as Bach went on to form a solo project and portray the title role in the Broadway musical Jeckyll and Hyde. In mid-2000, Skid Row re-formed with new singer Johnny Solinger and toured as the opening band for Kiss' farewell tour. They released Thickskin with Solinger in 2003, followed by Revolutions Per Minute in 2006. ~ Barry Weber, All Music Guide

Skid Row has a few songs that are real worked out good. then some that just dont make a lot of uping the game for them.
There just a good Band not a Awsome band. |
hells yeah... Skid Row took Pantera on their first tour & the impact of Pantera's influence on their sound is all over "Slave to Grind"(album & song especially). . . "The noose gets tighter around my throat, but I ain't at the end of my rope"... I'd like to hear Phil growl this out in a cover... SDMF

Grunge sucked a**! Thats why Cobain is pushing up daiseys while Ozzy rocks on!!
Actualy going to see whats left of Skid Row tomorrow night at Leesburg bike fest
Tommy Lee was all about the show. Twirling his drumsticks and such. But the drumming was pathetic. I wasn't a big fan of grunge, but Metal was dead by the time it came around, and neither Skid Row or Motley Crue were metal, anyway.
I love Skid Row, there guitarist are pretty damn good, I'd have no problem playing them right before or after a slayer cd, which i was lisening to back then. But Tommy Lee does suck at drumming, not stage show tho. Bach has a great voice but he thought he was higher than God. It really sucks that grunge took over, alot of bands would still be around.

skid row rocked the house, seen them 2, excellent show, bach is the s**t

That cubby guy kept leaving pornographic love notes for me on my profile. I had to block him.

this band misses bach in a major way - getting rid of him was a huge mistake
I looked up Daddy Yankee on Pandora. All I can say is, "Gasolina" is 100 times better than anything Skid Row or Motely Crud ever put out. gregnef62 probably likes Damn Yankees...LO S E R
Tommy Lee is a terrible drummer! He spends more time spinning his sticks around than actual drumming, but then, that's a good thing. Except that then you have to listen to Vince Neil's "singing".
Gregne, if you like Skid Row or Motley Spew, YOU are the loser. I never heard of Daddy Yankee. I guess you're a big fan, though. Reepers... Who is Spandecs? "Thay'v"? What is that supposed to mean? |
SOUNDS LIKE SPANDECS TO ME.... BUT THAY'V GOT ALBUMS OUT & YOU DONT.....
I was also at the last 3 Motley shows, and each time they kept getting better. Tommy Lee and his aerial show was incredible. as a percussionis t he never ceases to amaze me. I take the same passion with me whenever my band plays out and I make people sure that they know I am back there rocking out!
these guys kick a**!!!!great guitar riffs and killer leads and freakin awesome vocals....wh o cares if bach is a diva...id fight over the make-up with him.......wi t h a voice like that...c*m on people...... r o c k out with your c**k out beotches.... . . . . . . x o x o x o x o

Tommy Lee is the worst drummer I have ever seen. Just awful. Vince Neil has the most irritating voice on record. I've been unfortunate enough to see Motley Crue in concert at least 3 times, and they stunk every time. Boring, annoying, and not very musically talented. Bach is annoying, full of himself, and Skid Row is boring. I've never seen Skid Row live, and hope I never do.
So you are saying that Bach is not a great front man? interesting. He's an animal on stage and gets pumped every time he plays and shows more enthusiasm than most front men today. Vince Neil - same thing (although back in the day he was a little more jumpy). And speaking as a drummer, Tommy Lee is one of the great rock drummers and percussionis t s I have ever seen. He plays loud, hard and never misses a beat. He's not as technical as Neal Peart, but for the kind of music he plays, he's top

Sebastian Bach is a prima donna to the 10th degree
He thinks he is much more than he is |
Back is the man, I dont care whatever you say. He was royaly screwed by his manager and deserves respect.
Peace out! |
Let me put it this way, as a "heavy metal" front man, I think Bach stinks. Maybe he has a decent voice - I don't know, but I don't think it's a good one for metal. And he just annoys me, but not as much as that guy fronting Taking Back Sunday. And Vince Neil had to have the most annoying voice ever, combined with Tommy Lee's poor drumming...

Metal Momma,
Well, good for you. Cool ringtone. But most girls went for the lighter stuff, and I would put these guys into that category. Suicidal Tendencies - cool. I never got to see them. Saw Metallica open for Raven in '82 or '83. |
Sebastian Bach made this band what it was - incredible. Check out Bach's new CD Angel Down - it ROCKS!!!
Ramon, I like those bands. "Run to the Hills" is my ringtone! In my top 10 shows: Metallica, Megadeth and Suicidal Tendencies. So girls can like the "heavier" stuff, too. I checked your stations and you have some good stuff. I'm just saying I think they deserve a little more respect than you've shown them. I was disappointed when Bach was absent last time I saw them live (w/KISS). He was on Broadway! So SOMEONE didn't think he sucked.

they should tell you how many characters you have left when typing.
I don't think I've ever heard those other songs you named, because I reach for the dial/mouse when I hear Bach's voice. |
Metal Momma, I like metal, but wouldn't count Skid Row as metal. I assume from you're name that you're a woman, and it did seem that most of their fans were female. Most girls liked the bands like Skid Row, Motley Crue, GnR, etc, that weren't quite heavy enough for the guys.
I'll take Maiden, Priest, Scorps, Accept, Saxon, Sabbath, early Metallica, etc over the hair bands. Personally, I'd rather forget "I Remember You". LOL I don't think I've ever heard those other songs you named, b |
