The Sounds
Biography
The Sounds are a Swedish rock group featuring the coed talents of vocalist Maja Ivarsson, keyboardist Jesper Anderberg, bassist Johan Bengtsson, drummer Fredrik Nilsson, and guitarist Felix Rodriguez. The new wave throwbacks -- whose poppy, synthesizer-heavy music is unapologetically indebted to Blondie and Missing Persons -- formed in the late '90s and recorded Living in America in Stockholm and Nilsson's Helsingborg apartment. The album hit number four the week after its Swedish release, and was picked up for U.S. release in May 2003 through New Line. Dying to Say This to You followed three years later, featuring a polished blend of anthemic, '80s-inspired rock and sex-craved new wave that widened the band's audience abroad. Touring obligations kept the Sounds busy until October 2007, at which time they returned to the studio with producer Mark Saunders (who had recently worked with the Sounds' touring mates in Shiny Toy Guns). Recording sessions for the band's third studio effort, Crossing the Rubicon, took place in Sweden, Los Angeles, and New York, and the resulting album was readied for release in June 2009. ~ Andy Kellman & Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide

the fact that you hear this and the first thing that comes to mind is geico is exactly why it's a slippery slope to mix art and commerce. even if what is expressed is small, and especially if it bears significance , for many or for a few, to turn all of our precious things into jingles is such a shame. music is too important!!!
Loved this song ever since I heard it on the Geico commercial! I love it when commercials use great music....
Maja is super hot and talented. Love their music and seeing them live years ago at the Amoeba Record store was memorable... . . . G r e a t beats fun and very entertaining .
I love these guys!!!...th e girls voice is really powerful i love it

angel of anarchy says: we need more bands with hot chicks like these and less ugly bands like tool.
I love TOOL , but I will concur. |
I love her voice. It's smooth and blissful. Rock'n Roll is a cool song.

I don't really find The Sounds too comparable to either Missing Persons or Blondie, other than the fact that they are an upbeat new-waveish pop band with an attractive female singer. They have their own thing going, and it's a thing I definitely like. They were great at Coachella in '03 or '04.

Guys, there are only five bands listed under Similar Artists, and they seem to be currently weighted towards the most current and popular bands, where these guys mostly trump the suggestions. I think it's so people who look at this page can say "Oh, I like Teagan and Sara" rather than people who like the Sounds looking for other bands they'd like. That's what stations are for.
And it's definitely not for nerds to come and argue over who they're most similar to. |
another surprising omission from the similar artists list is Shiny Toy Guns. If you like these guys and gals, you might like those guys and gals. Guy/girl vocals w/ the same neo-wave synth beats.
i know im insanely crazy, but for some reason they remind me of new modern Ramones. The songs are fast, simple, and catchy.
surprising the Sleater-kinn e y don't come up as a similar band. They seem to be v influenced by them??
