Stars
Biography
Sharing a fondness for sophisticated soul and pop artists (the Smiths, New Order, Marvin Gaye, et al.), Stars were formed by Torquil Campbell and Chris Seligman in New York. Along with friends Evan Cranley (also of Big Rude Jake) and Amy Millan (who contributed to the soundtrack for the film Drowning Mona), the band relocated to Montreal. Their debut full-length, Nightsongs, was released in early 2001, followed by an EP, The Comeback, later that year. Besides playing with Stars, Campbell has appeared in films, plays, and television (including Law & Order and Sex and the City). Seligman has performed with several orchestras, including the orchestra for the Broadway musical The Scarlet Pimpernel. Before 2002 came to an end, the band headed back into the studio to record a sophomore effort. The soft-hued Heart was released to critical acclaim in the U.K. before Christmas; Heart appeared stateside on the Canadian label Arts & Crafts during summer 2003. The ambitious Set Yourself on Fire followed two years later, and all of its tracks were creatively remixed by the band's peers. Stars released these songs on a new album, Do You Trust Your Friends?, in 2007. That July, as a preemptive measure to beat any blog leaks of their next record, the group made In Our Bedroom After the War available for download two months before its actual September release date. ~ Kenyon Hopkin, All Music Guide

The male vocalist sort of reminds me of Morrisey at points, which I like.

Interesting ensemble, think I'd like to hear more..

This isn't my cup of tea.
I hate tea. See what I did there? That means I like Stars. |

There's something really eerie about the lyrics and, well, quite sad. The song goes along way to dramatize the situation of those cruising the electronic pick up clubs, acting nonchalant, talking straight, and alternately dashing or losing hope in a random encounter.

For those of you who watch Grey's Anatomy, you may have seen that that show knows about Stars. For those who don;t know this, each Grey's episode is called by a song's name. Last week's show as called Elevator Love Letter, a Stars song. It has to be Stars - who else has anothe song called Elevator Love Letter? I see only references to the Grey's show, Stars and Pandora on Google.

Absolutely love 'em. Missed a chance to go see them live because of a final exam the next day :(
i Love this band so much. They're similar to some of my other favorite bands :) Elevator Love Letter is my favorite so far :)
I love Stars. I'm only upset that 'The Night Starts Here' was the first track I heard by them, in 2008. To think I've been missing seven years of beautiful music!!
elevator love letter is so good, it spans generations of love: Generation Jones and Generation Y's both dig it.
I adore the song Your Ex-Lover is Dead. The female vocals are haunting and melancholy, lending them a unique sort of beauty.
they sound EXACTLY like Metric... not that that's a bad thing ;)
Pretty good, pretty good, not bad, not bad. I love when a guy and girl sing together.
