Stone Sour
Biography
Although Slipknot made their mainstream debut in the late '90s, singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root got their start a few years before in Stone Sour. Described as a cross between Metallica and Alice in Chains, the group was put aside when the two men joined Slipknot. In the spring of 2002, Root and Taylor got in contact with original guitarist Josh Rand and bassist Sean Economaki and re-formed Stone Sour to record their first album. The self-titled debut gained two Grammy nominations and was RIAA-certified gold. Drafting in drummer Joel Ekman, the band released a song for the Spider-Man soundtrack ("Bother," credited only to Taylor) while recording the album in Los Angeles. After four years, Stone Sour returned to the studio to record Come What(ever) May, produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver) and released in August 2006. The album hit number four on the Billboard charts, driven by the success of the single "Through Glass." The band hit the road the same year on the Family Values tour with high-profile headliners Deftones and Korn. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
Selected Discography
Corey does have some pretty amazingly flexible vocals. It's just too bad that before V3 he had vocal issues and lost that extra gutter sound. The sound that would slice right through you and leave you feeling brutally annihilated in a good way.It was incredible but he has a different edge to his voice now.Still love his vocalization though.

i dont give a f**k what anyone says. Taylor and Root are both great artists in either band.

Joel Ekman hasnt been with the band for a few years now. His son had cancer, and ended up dying. Sad deal really. I know Joel. He is a hell of a guy, fun to party with, and has a new band. I hope this new band the best.

both are sweet bands. stone sour is ment to be a more creative outlet for taylor, thats why stone sour isnt as hard as slipknot. both bands are great.
Fact is SlipKnoT or Stone Sour arent side projects.Cor e y and Jim decided to go with SlipKnoT because they were actually going somewhere and not stuck playing for the only freaking "club" in town, the Safari. It's clear though, SlipKnoT still is number one between the two.Peeps who dont know the history,so to speak, should really read up before going off on bullshit, half a** rants about any bands history.

Hell and consequences is a staple of what metal truly is.I don't call it rock.Corey has the attitude to do what he does best.I don't understand why the bio doesn't list Roy Mayorga for their last ablbum. The man is a freakin' drum wizard!
Nice suggestion staticaddict , but I felt that the second album was better!
i suggest the self titled (Stone Sour)...Cold Reader, Bother, and Get Inside are amazing songs
I had no idea that Corey Taylor could sing without souding like he had his throat cut lol. These guys are awesome! I might buy an album
niether slipknot nor stone sour are side projects. the bands break up when they get tired of each other and switch to the other. their will never be a final desision between who these people play with and that's what makes the greatness that somehow was born into the mirical it is today. they will forever be switching on and off of each other and i wouldn't want it any other way. everything they've done has made them who they are and they'd lose their godsend of a talent if it were any other way
I love this band, but I like SlipKnoT more. I am more into aggressive metal like that. But Corey Taylor is an excellent lyricist and would make any band sound amazing, and Jim Root is the man.
I prefer this band compared to Corey Taylor and Jim Roots other project because to me slipknot is just to much death metal for my liking don't get me wrong ladies and Gentlemen I love aggression as much as the next person but not to that extent. we need another stone sour album Cory and Jim any updates on new material.
