Stratovarius
Biography
Although Helsinki, Finland heavy metal band Stratovarius was formed in 1982 by drummer Tuomo Lassila, the group did not record its debut album, Fright Night, until 1989 (after which Lassila departed). 1992's Twilight Time established a fan base in Japan, becoming the biggest-selling import of that year; Stratovarius consolidated its Japanese popularity with an extensive tour of the country behind 1994's Dreamspace. Following 1995's Fourth Dimension, the lineup shifted to include vocalist Timo Kotipelto, guitarist Timo Tolkki, bassist Jari Kainulainen, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen keyboardist Jens Johanssen, and drummer Jorg Michael. This lineup added a choir and orchestra for 1996's Episode in 1996 and 1997's Visions, the latter of which was released in the U.S. early in 1998. American reissues of most of Stratovarius' previous output followed over the course of the year, and in the spring of 2000 the group issued Infinite. Intermission appeared the following summer. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
Selected Discography
It always seems to be the case that a band's older music is better. C'est la Vie!

Stratovarius is awesome, but Pandora needs to get some of their, other albums like episode and visions, those were classics, as is elements part 1
im also impressed that they managed to make a decent album (polaris) w/o tolki, their main songwriter |

I have Elements Pt.1 & 2, self titled, and Intermission (apparently that one is a compilation) . According to The Commander below, I have their worst albums, but I cannot find a single song that I do not like.
Let me get back with you on that one... I've forgotten the name of it. :(
Hmm, better than I thought. The album of theirs that I have must not be a good representati o n of thier music.

Stratovariou s is not a "greatest hits" type of band. Either you like the sound or you don't. If I was to pick a favorite song, it would have to be "United" off their self-titled album. In the end my "favorite" song always seems to be the one playing however.
My favorite songs by them are Eagleheart, Hunting High And Low, Millenium, Black Diamond, and Stratofortre s s .
I don't listen to them THAT often though, so they might have released some new stuff I haven't heard. But these songs might be a good place to start. |
Someone mind posting a short list of their best songs? I heard they were good but I haven't heard any songs yet.
@Ryan: I hear ya! I have them seeded in multiple stations and to this day they have played them only a handful of times! Plus they are missing a boatload of albums.
In other news, I'm surprised how long it took for this band to pop up on my neo-classica l power metal stations. I love these guys, and figured they'd be one of the first groups Pandora would throw at me.

In denial? Need friends? Behind on your life? Searching for intelligence ? Need a new pastime? Want to stop idiocy? Looking for hypocritical morons? Join Willl. Oh, the most bigoted of them all!
It won't help your problems, but at least you won't be alone! |

Polaris looks like it is here. If the other two are their worst, then I guess all I own of Stratovariou s is their worst. I assume Pandora is working on acquiring more. I look forward to hearing their better tunes.
Why does Pandora only have three albums? Where's the early stuff?
Pandora has included Stratovarius ' two worst albums? Seriously? Where's Destiny? Where's their lastest, Polaris? Get with the program...
stratovarius was a good band only until their 4th album... why pandora doesnt have those first albums?? thats the good stuff
Powerful yet emotional, technically stunning. Neo-Classica l to be sure, Beethoven would appreciate. Just as Yngwie loves Paganini.
Pandora, this is a great band! Thank's for continuing to feed my head on, KeyWestRoXra d i O .
This band is pretty awesome, though I usually don't like power metal... for some reason I can stand this band (even though it is like ultimate power metal)
jeeze 2/8 albums, and thats just their album albums, get it together pandora
Very "heavy metal meets classical!" Good music for working out.
