Symphony X
Biography
Michael Romeo formed Symphony X in New Jersey in 1994. The original lineup of the group also included Thomas Miller (bass guitar), Rod Tyler (vocals), Jason Rullo (drums), and Michael Pinnella (keyboards). They released their self-titled debut late that same year. The next year they put out the follow-up The Damnation Game. 1995 also saw Tyler leave the group, his replacement coming in the personage of Russell Allen. Their next release came out in 1997. It was the critically acclaimed The Divine Wings of Tragedy. In addition to the critical praise, this disc became the group's biggest commercial success yet. Before recording their next album, Jason Rullo left the band. He was replaced by Thomas Walling. With this lineup, the group released Twilight in Olympus. This release garnered both greater critical kudos and greater sales. In a unique turn of events, however, the band faced a new lineup change. Newcomer Walling and bassman Thomas Miller both decided that they were not up to touring for the album. The recently departed Rullo rethought his exodus and came back into the Symphony X fold. Andy DeLuca was brought in on bass for the duration of the tour. After the tour was over, the group found a permanent replacement in Mike LePond. This formation of the group released their fifth album in 2000 with V: The New Mythology Suite. ~ Gary Hill, All Music Guide

They are missing the first album on the selected discograhy, Symphony X and they are missing the Damnation game. Wtf, Pandora.
I really like this band!! At least for me front vocal , is one of the most experts singers on the metal scene....His vocal technique is awesome!
Best band in modern metal, period. Damnation Game, Divine Wings, or V were their best/most creative albums overall.
Paradise Lost is indeed a gothic-doom band, very similar to 69 Eyes.
You are a sad sadistic lunatic willow. I hope god smacks some sense into you

LOL. Isn't Paradise Lost some sort of gothic doom band? I can't say I've ever listened to them.
Ahhh, Plague was referring to the album 'Paradise Lost'. I was thinking of the band 'Paradise Lost'.

ROCK ON BROTHERS!! |
All their stuff is awesome!!. This one is the best so far!! I need to make a copy of this to play, so I won't wear out the original.LOL
Why on earth Dream Theater is more widely known is beyond me. |
What a great band-they even play better live! House of Blues, San Diego. Thanks Symphony X.
Last time I checked, the local Best Buy was still carrying Sonata Arctica, so I might have to check there when SA's new album comes out...yeah, internet is useful for finding stuff, but it's not very convenient if you don't like handing out your credit card number...
Aww, Plague, that sucks! Try ebay. As it is, I won't be able to buy the CD, either. My paycheck sucked! Oh, well, there's next time(maybe).
Paradise Lost was my favorite album all last year, and I am not a metalhead! I typically listen to classical music and alternative rock... yet Symphony X has become a staple on my iPod, truck CD player and Pandora.
@Black Swan: There used to be an F.Y.E. five minutes away from my house, but it went belly up. D: Now I don't know where to go to get new CDs. I got their Paradise Lost album from a record store in the next city over when my friend and I were taking care of some stuff for his school.
Paradise Lost is iconic goth. Loved them for years ... still don't have a CD ... I'm jealous >P
I need to buy their CD's. On payday:here I come, F.Y.E. Heeheehee.
I likes me some Symphony X!!! These guys are awesome!
Seen Symphony X twice and both times they were awesome. they played The Odyssey as an encore and it blew me away.Ayreon, Therion, Dream Theater, Epica also kick a**. especialy Ayreon, Arjen is a musical mastermind!
Very prog. Reminds me a lot of Dream Theater. I love this music, but for symphonic I will turn to Epica, After Forever, and Therion.
thought it was kansas at first.must admit I havent heard of these guys.I like this track for sure!
Definitely one of those bands that keeps us musicians satisfied. Good stuff.
This band is the future of true, modern symphonic music. Excluding modern day classical composers :P
hell ya! Symphony X ROX! Live they are amazing! And they are nice as hell to talk as well! btw if you haven't heard Romeo or Pinnella's solo albums...YOU R MISSING OUT!!!
I have been in love with these guys since i heard Fallen off of V back in 2000. Great band.
It's a shame this band isn't bigger than it is. I think a lot of people would like these guys.
The only band I like better than Dream Theater.
Also: how on earth do you think this band uses Cookie monster vocals? |
