Taking Back Sunday
Biography
Formed in 1999 in Amityville, NY, Taking Back Sunday modeled their interpretation of melodic hardcore after bands like Lifetime, Endpoint, and Sunny Day Real Estate, as well as guitarist Ed Reyes' emo outfit the Movielife. After the release of a five-song demo and a year's worth of touring (including shows with At the Drive-In and Alkaline Trio), Taking Back Sunday signed to Victory Records and entered New Jersey's Big Blue Meanie Recording Studios alongside producer Sal Villanueva and engineer Tim Gilles. The result, Tell All Your Friends, layered Adam Lazzara's emotional vocals and the dual-guitar assault of Reyes and John Nolan, fashioning a classic hardcore sound with pop songwriting components. The debut album was released in March 2002 and is the only official album to display the founding lineup.
The group spent the rest of that year and much of 2003 touring, but when Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper left the band (which was rounded out by drummer Mark O'Connell), Taking Back Sunday's future was left in doubt. However, guitarist/vocalist Fred Mascherino (ex-Breaking Pangea) and bassist Matt Rubano (ex-Schleigho) filled out the lineup in time for the band's fall 2003 tour and subsequent recording sessions.

sorry to burst some peoples bubbles but taking back sunday is way better than the used. the used is incredibly talented don't get me wrong but taking back sunday is phenomenal.

I like louder now way more than tell all your friends... also i have hope for new again although I haven't heard it yet simply cuz matt fazzi is awesome! RIP Facing new york!

truly horrible music, i'd rather be a fan of country music, or f*g pop or whatever terribly contrived other pop bullshit than this, thankfully i'm not a fan of any of it.

pandora is like in love with tbs. i swear, the songs that pop up the most (on so many stations to boot) all come from tbs. at this point, i can do without them in my life.

I wish I had two more hands...so I could give this band 4 thumbs down. Stay off my Bullet For My Valentine station. No matter how many times I "thumbs down" a Taking it from the Back Sunday song Pandora keeps playing their songs on my stations. AHHHHHH!!!!!

Where You Want To Be and Tell All Your Friends were edgy; Louder Now makes Taking Back Sunday a COMPLETELY AMAZING group to see LIVE. I saw them in May, at a little 300-seat venue, and they blew it up like Aerosmith at Madison Square Garden. The energy was hair-on-fire crackling electric. It's too bad they're trading that for mediocre backup vocals and standard pop hooks attached to lyrics full of half-baked religious symbolism. |

They have done nothing but get better. Since the days of them being my guilty pleasure emo band of choice up through their progression as artists, they have developed and become a hell of a band.
