Tea Leaf Green
Biography
San Francisco-based jam band Tea Leaf Green got their start in the relationship between guitarist Josh Clark and drummer Scott Rager, who played in a high-school band together in Arcadia, CA. After graduation, Rager enrolled at San Francisco State College, where he met bassist Ben Chambers. When Clark moved to San Francisco, the three began playing together as a trio. Their first paying gig was attended by Trevor Garrod, a singer/songwriter and keyboard player who had moved to San Francisco looking for other musicians to play with. Garrod met the three others, and soon they were playing together as a quartet. They built a following in Northern California and self-released the albums Tea Leaf Green, Midnight on the Reservoir (2001), Friday June 6, 2003: Live at Slim's, San Francisco CA (September 17, 2003), Living in Between (February 7, 2004), and Live at the Independent (2004). Eventually, they extended their touring nationwide, including a performance at the Bonnaroo Festival in 2005.
Signing to Reincarnate Music, they issued their first national release, Taught to Be Proud, on November 15, 2005, as they played shows opening for Gov't Mule and Trey Anastasio. On May 19, 2006, they appeared at the Fox Theater in Boulder, CO, and the show was filmed for a home video. It was issued by SCI Fidelity Records on October 31, 2006, as Rock 'n' Roll Band, both as a separately released CD and DVD. Further touring found Tea Leaf Green opening for Dave Matthews Band and Bruce Hornsby, as well as headlining on their own. Chambers left the band in November 2007 and was replaced by Reed Mathis, formerly of Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. In 2008, a move to Surfdog Records led to the re-release of the first three studio albums, Tea Leaf Green, Midnight on the Reservoir, and Living in Between, as the triple-CD compilation Seeds on April 22, 2008. Surfdog reissued Taught to Be Proud with bonus tracks on June 3, 2008, and released a new Tea Leaf Green studio album, Raise Up the Tent, on July 22, 2008. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide

I just saw them at a free concert in Buffalo called Buffalo Rocks the Harbor. They sure rocked.

I just saw them last night in Mission Beach, San Diego. They put on a FREE show on the beach. AWESOME jamming, tightness, buildups. Bass and guitar work among the finest I've ever seen, including the likes of Rush, Yes, etc. I would have been happy paying $100 to see what I saw last night for free.

They headlined The Arrow Stage on Sunday of Hardly Stritly Bluegrass in SF. I hoped for the "Hardly" but got the "Strictly". It was cool though Dan Lebowitz of ALO came out on pedal steel and murdered it.

Love this band. Get to a show and after three hours you'll have a new favorite band. Rock solid.

They are opening for Umphreys in LA next month and I hope to catch the show. They have a great sound.

One of my favorite currently touring live bands and their studio work is extremely approachable for a band in the "jam" genre. In my mind, they more exemplify what rock bands were before record companies shined and polished all of the originality and individualit y away and turned everyone into pop artists. Just an all around wonderful band and a great group of guys to boot. I couldn't wish success on a more deserving and likable group of people.

hey bens wife, saying Phish was trying to be the Dead is like saying Andy Kaufman and Eddie Murphy are the same just cause they're both comedians. They're both jam bands but Trey has a distinctly different style of improv. than Jerry and the Dead had a quasi-bluegr a s s feel that Phish never really achieved. Don't insult Phish's creativity especially if you can't spell their name.

best band of all time. i absolutely love everything about these guys
|

Saw them twice, once at the Gathering of the Vibes 2007 and once at the Music Mill in Indianapolis . The CD's don't do them justice, these guys are awesome!

Saw these guys open for flogging molly at the oyster festival in san fran they are fantastic, feel good, make you dance, and leave you wanting more... Tea leaf green gets put in the fish genre. You know bands that try to be the dead.
Dont get me wrong I love the dead but tea leaf green belongs to the fish genre as much as flogging molly belongs to punk. I dont believe they belong to anybody but the great spirit who wants everybody to celebrate life. |

Seen these guys live a couple of times. Best show was just before New Year's Eve in 07. This small Virginia show was a completely different TLG than I have ever seen. The light show was freaking amazing. They were jamming for hours.

TLG has been one of my favorite bands since I moved to the bay area. Watching them mature as a band and musicians has been a exciting. I can't wait for them to come out with another album. Hurry up guys can't wait to hear it. :)

Very good band to see live. I hope they make it back to the Wakarusa Festival this year. We saw them at the Mulberry Mountain Festival in Arkansas last year as well as Wakarusa in Kansas.

I really the way they jam together. They have very tight. With a early Phish and alluman Brothers quality. I enjoy and hard to find.
