Temple Of The Dog
Biography
Temple of the Dog was a one-album project conceived in 1990. The purpose of Temple of the Dog was to pay tribute to the late Andrew Wood, the lead singer of Mother Love Bone, who died of a heroin overdose in 1990. Following his death, Mother Love Bone broke up, but Wood's bandmates Jeff Ament (bass) and Stone Gossard (guitar) decided to continue working together. Before Ament and Gossard formed a new band, they assembled Temple of the Dog, recruiting Chris Cornell (vocals) and Matt Cameron (drums) from Soundgarden to form the core of the group. Temple of the Dog also featured contributions from then-unknown vocalist Eddie Vedder and guitarist Mike McCready.
Temple of the Dog recorded their eponymous album in 1990, releasing it at the end of the year on A&M Records. The album received positive reviews upon its release, but didn't chart until the summer of 1992, when Pearl Jam -- a band Ament, Gossard, Vedder, McCready, and drummer Dave Krusen formed in late 1990 after the completion of the Temple of the Dog album -- had a Top Ten album with their debut record, Ten. Following the success of Ten, A&M re-released "Hunger Strike" -- a duet between Vedder and Cornell -- as a video and single, and the album quickly scaled the charts, reaching the Top Ten and going platinum before the end of 1992. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

I've seen Cornell in EVERY stage..Sound g a r d e n , Solo, Audioslave-- - he is absolutely PERFECT- no matter what he does-- he can put any emotion to words & make you FEEL it.......
In my opinion, this album started it all, as did Mother Love Bone. And yes, so many memories of the 90's in smoke filled rooms with people I didn't know...well put! Good times...
Grunge was all about emotion...Fr o m pain (Temple of the Dog, Nirvana, Alice in Chains) to Angst (Nirvana, Soundgarden) to Sex (Soundgarden , Mudhoney, L7), to Love (TOTD)...I saw Soundgarden in Eau Claire WISCONSIN in 1989 with Faith No More and Voivod in a club with MAYBE 500 ppl...best performances I've ever seen to date...
Ahh Chris Cornell...yo u used to be so cool.
yeah- you can feel the emotional depth of this album-- you know it comes from a 'personal' experience
Probably my favorite album of all time...for some reason I developed an emotional attachment to every riff that grows with each listen. Couple that with the circumstance s surrounding the music's creation and the whole thing is just awesome! Some of Cornell's best writing/sing i n g IMO as well.

Seeing Chris Cornell sing this live before I die is good- his voice is so amazing- & his live stage performance- when he includes the audience to sing Eddie Vedder's part was SOOOO much fun!!!

This album got me through a lot of tough times. It's truly the only super-group album from the grunge era, when music meant something...

I remember growing up with this, parents rocking out in the kitchen...go o d times, miss the 90's.
I wore out my cassette and one cd. This was the best eleven bucks I ever spent in my life.
I almost forgot about this band until Pandora placed them back into my ears. So many days in the 90s listening in smoke filled rooms with people I didn't know....
i wore out my cassette i listened to it so much had to buy a cd....wish they would have made more

The bio up there isn't completely accurate - Cornell was Andy Wood's former roommate. He wrote the first couple of songs ("Say Hello 2 Heaven" and "Reach Down") and approached Gossard and Ament.
Yeah, I'm a geek. So what? |
Really, I thought this whole cd was great, granted I am a big PJ and Soundgarden fan. I can listen to this cd begining to end.
