Tevin Campbell
Biography
There's some dispute over who actually discovered Texas child sensation Tevin Campbell. Some accounts credit flutist Bobbi Humphrey, while much of the publicity material credits Quincy Jones. It's assured that Campbell first came to the notice of music fans just after his 11th birthday in late 1989 when he appeared on Jones' LP Back on the Block and was featured on "Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me)," which hit number one on the R&B charts in June 1990. With his high, flexible tenor, Campbell recalled an earlier Jones protégé, Michael Jackson. Later that year, he appeared in Prince's Graffiti Bridge film singing "Round and Round," which Prince wrote for him and which became a gold single. Next, in the summer of 1991, he appeared on the soundtrack to Boyz in the Hood singing "Just Ask Me To," a Top Ten R&B hit. All of this set the stage for his debut album, 1991's T.E.V.I.N., which went platinum and spawned two R&B chart-toppers, "Tell Me What You Want Me to Do" and "Alone with You," as well as the R&B Top Five hit "Goodbye." I'm Ready, released two years later, did even better, going double platinum and featuring three R&B chart hits -- the number one "Can We Talk," "I'm Ready," which went Top Five, and "Always in My Heart," which reached the Top Ten. But 1996's Back to the World was a sales disappointment, and 1999's Tevin Campbell did even worse. A compilation package was issued in early 2001. ~ Ron Wynn & William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide

It was so good to see and hear Tevin perform on the BET Awards. Of course, he still has that amazing smooth tenor voice that no one can touch or even come close to! He is one of the Best Male Artists of all times. Tevin is such a multi-talent e d Artist; although he says he has found his niche on Broadway, I'm still anticipating a new CD from him and I hope soon. Tevin, all of your die-hard fans really miss you and we LOVE YOU! You are one of my favorites on Pandora....

I think that Tevin Campbell should have kept singing his heart out. "I'm Ready" is truly a classic, bringing a soulful vibe together with instrumental s that aren't overwhelming . Most of the young singers like Tevin at the time projected their voices in such a way that acapella would be normal to them. Some of today's r&b uses heavy instrumental s to cover up the horrible vocals of singers, and the computer cleans up the rest...until they go live, of course.

I love Tevin Campbell and every song he has ever recorded. He such an amazing voice and is a man of many talents. I have to definitely agree with Tony Gonzalez, it's a shame that he's not at the top of the R&B, POP charts today with all of talent! But lookout, he is still young and can still sang his butt off! He is one of a kind and one of the best male Artists in the industry.
Actually, a friend of mine went to see Hairspray on Broadway last year or something and he was in it still sounding great.
What can I say? Tevin Campbell's "I'm Ready" is a classic. His vocals were great and he distinguishe d himself from every other artist of his time. We will never know why he could not continue but it is a shame to not have this guy at the top of the charts today. He still very young.

What ever happend to him. he has a great voice. He would have been a great singer.

Tevin Campbell is one of the few great male voices out there. He had the talent. What happened? I want to hear more from him. Some artist just do not get the big break that they rightly deserve. Tevin is one of them. His career was promising. It makes me sad that great voices like his are not always appreciated as they should. The 2000's have taken us away from that. We need it back!
Tevin your music has always taken me "ROUND AND ROUND" and touched my heart. Come on "BACK ON THE BLOCK" with another one just like the other ones. Just like the other fans "I"M READY". All NEYO need is some time "ALONE WITH YOU".I hope "TOMORROW" can bring a "BETTER YOU A BETTER ME". So get on the ball "T.E.V.I.N" and say NEYO "CAN WE TALK"? I want to let you know that "YOU ALWAYS IN MY HEART". "TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO" to get you "BACK TO THE WORLD"? Until then "GOODBYE". LOVE YOU ALWAY
I love the smooth voice and vocals it's sad that he hasn't come across the right people. You don't hear singing like that now a days with feeling and emmotion. It brings me back to the 70's smooth jams and black lights. Hope to hear more from you Tevin. Maybe if you tried doing it independentl y you could sing what you like not that commercial B.S.

I enjoy his music. He'll always be one of my favorite all time.
