The Time
Biography
From their origins as Prince's first pet project to their self-produced funk-rock oeuvre, the Time has been a fascinating and outrageous congregation. Vocalist Morris Day infused his cocky, swaggering personality into dance hits that would make Rufus Thomas envious, and, unlike most of the competition, the band managed to do something unique with Prince's genre-busting innovations. The Time broke up in the late '80s, with Day going on to a somewhat disastrous solo career, Jesse Johnson crafting two dazzling solo albums, and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis becoming one of the most successful production teams this side of Gamble & Huff, working with everyone from Full Force and Janet Jackson to the S.O.S. Band and Human League. The group re-formed in 1990 and released the excellent Pandemonium. ~ John Floyd, All Music Guide

These cats came to Augusta, Ga with Prince's to open up the show. Morris and Jerome rocked the house non-stop 45 mins to 1 hr. Prince had some trouble performing behind them. Great show and great musicians!

When I came back to the States in the 80's after living overseas, this group's Fishnet was the first video I ever saw on MTV. They are one of the best from that era.

Jesse Johnson has 4 solo albums. JJ revue, Everyshade of Love, Shocadelica and Bare my Naked Soul..... Jesse is a funkateer as well.... Morris solo albums were good as well... His solo career was not as bad as some might think... But he was good in the movie " Moving"

WHats so awesome about the time is the fact that price wrote all of their s**t. He had so much music in him that he developed another band to put it out there. Prince wanted to focus on his more soulful/rock stuff so he created the time as vehicle to deliver his upbeat club music to the masses. The man is a musical genius. Of course, Morris Day, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis are all awesome in their own rights.
WHAT TIME IS IT!? Do the damn thang Morris! |

I gotta agree with SWOLE.(with a caveat....wh i c h is that we must recall that every generation says negative stuff about the following one's music....wit h o u t exception).
When live bands were the shhhh... These were the days of real music.Somebo d y tell the bling-blinge r s to get a real career... Most of them are 1 hit wonders that will not stand the test of TIME...
This artist just like prince is one of my favorite artists. As I said in my pf, I'm a musician in my own right and Morris Day as well as Prince has some of the baddests bands in the world. I love their style of music and their choice to always have live bands to make up the music.
