Tonic
Biography
Vocalist/guitarist Emerson Hart formed the alternative/roots band Tonic in 1993 with guitarist Jeff Russo (a childhood friend), bassist Dan Rothchild, and drummer Kevin Shepard. After gigging around Los Angeles, the foursome signed with A&M Records. For the recording of their debut album, producer Jack Joseph Puig (Jellyfish, the Black Crowes) gave Tonic a decidedly rootsy feel, with the addition of lap steel and mandolin. The album, titled Lemon Parade, was released in July 1996. After replacing the departed Rothchild with Dan Lavery, the band contributed to soundtracks including Scream 2, The X Files, and Clay Pigeons before returning in 1999 with Sugar. Three years later, Tonic returned with Head On Straight. "Take Me As I Am" was a smash hit on modern rock radio; however, Tonic's shining moment came in early 2003 when they received two Grammy nominations -- one for Best Rock Performance By A Duo or Group With Vocal for "Take Me As I Am" and Best Rock Album. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

I met Tonic's lead guy in Nashville a few years ago.... I was hammered and obnoxious and kept telling him that I liked his music. Instead of doing what I would have done and told me to screw off the guy was really nice. I appreciate that. Thanks Tonic.

If You Could Only See convinced me to add Tonic as a music seed - I really like their sound. Shame to hear they aren't a group anymore.

Saw this band 3 times & each time was better than the next!! They are totally awesome live!!- even my boyfriend (who is not that much into live music) was TOTALLY into this band- they have a charisma that is indescribabl e until you actually SEE it

They still are touring and making good music. Going to see Tonic and Marcy's Playground next weekend.

It's not just the perfect sound, nor the artists' voice.It's what the the artist voice is saying is so REAL! Not just empty words_they r from the heart & r a huge reflection on the artist as a person confused or in pain! I think we all can relate...The r e r a few more REAL artists & performers that write& sing what they r feeling. My heart goes out 2 their pain-as well as 2U!

This band is great. Every album grew better and stronger than the previous. Emerson Harts solo album is also a great triumph. For some reason the reviewer here fails to recognize that the song "If you could only see" put them on the map.

I have been searching for the perfect sound for most of my life and these guys are as close as anyone has ever come. They are phenomenal.

Look at Pandora's list of "Similar artists" to Tonic. I like every band on that list, therefore it only makes sense I'd like these guys. They have a great sound, and have found the fine line between "alt" and "hard rock".

Hey... their music helped me through a tough time. I have to give credit for that (though, occasionally , their music does sound the same)

These guys are amazing, great sound and concert! Im a professional singer and the notes he hits are very difficult for men, and he does it well. Plus theyre bad a** song writers, the rest of you haters get real and stop being jeleous u have zero talent and are angry because the only job u can get it squirting s**t into tacos at taco bell!

agreed. balls in blender, or maybe even food processor. that would destroy them more quickly. did anyone else notice when they come on a station their album picture is actually a cover of Berlin's greatest hits?
|
||
This guys sounds like his boyfriend put his balls in a blender.

Great live too, saw them in 2000. Irish is like an anthem, even my Dad loved it and he left Ireland in the 50's.
|
||
great lyrics they use to put out an album every 3 years 2002,??????? ? ? ?
|
||
Does anyone know what happened to Tonic? why havnt they made an album since 2002? Are they touring?
Thanks |
||
Their song: "Waltz with Me" is one of the most simple yet beautiful songs I have heard in a long time.
|
||
I dunno, sdemen, but they do it well... :D "Irish" is a great song.

You ought to make "Emerson Hart" an active link as he has an amazing album out right now - Cigarettes and Gasoline. I think those reading this bio would want to know the Tonic front-man has gone solo.
