Tony Levin/John Petrucci/Mike Portnoy/Jordan Rudess
Biography
A sort of instrumental prog-rock/prog-metal supergroup, Liquid Tension Experiment features Dream Theater's John Petrucci (guitar) and Mike Portnoy (drums), keyboardist Jordan Rudess (who has worked with the Dixie Dregs and has since joined Dream Theater), and bassist extraordinaire Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, and many others). The group issued its self-titled debut in 1998 on the Magna Carta label and regrouped the following year for Liquid Tension Experiment 2. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

You can really hear the influence of Steve Morse, Satch, Vai. I loved it!

Well, the point of it was for MP to assemble a prog rock super group with different members of respected bands in the genre. So he naturally chose Levin, as he's one of the best bassists around, and he chose Rudess because he wasn't in DT at the time, but MP admired his ability. He also tried to get a few different guitarists who weren't in DT, but no one came through, so he just went ahead and asked Petrucci to join the group. Worked out great in the end though, as is evident in their music

While the music is good, I don't hear anything that Myung couldn't play. What's the point of replacing him with Levin and calling it a "side project" when DT could have just made an instrumental album?

odd.. why is the artist not Liquid Tension Experiment? Oh well, it's still the same awesomeness.

Amazing! Thanks for breaking he mold and forging boldly musically. The results are an aural delight.

LTE2 is actually here, but it's under Liquid Tension Experiment.

It's disgraceful that LTE2 isn't here on Pandora... "When The Water Breaks" is the best song they did and probably the best prog instrumental ever, even including "La Villa Strangiato".

Just bridging the gap between emotional honesty and technical prowess. I am amazed, dazzled, taken on high to experience the bliss of Heaven, than dropped low to feel the pangs of human duality, frailty and mortality. All in music, no lyrics needed.

No vocals to get in the way of their exciting compositions and jaw-dropping chops! Brilliant!
|
||
Oh my! Brilliant. Both of their albums are fantastic and technical wizardry in music doesn't get any better.

The second LTE is much more consistent and polished than this one, but this has some GREAT stuff on it.
