Traveling Wilburys
Selected Discography
In reference to bplewe's comment about there only being two "supergroups " , I would like to point out that even before CSNY there was Blind Faith (Clapton, Winwood, etc.)

Sorry, you guys aren't idiots but, Roy Orbison died in 1988 and the second album didn't come out until 1990

Pandora, no profile? WTF?! This is the kind of stuff you guys should be really good at AND well-versed in. I agree with Colleen and Justin: Boo! Get it together! there is obviously a lot of controversy over what happened first and who was in the band, etc. You guys should set these know-it-alls (who might be wrong and calling other people idiots) straight, and enlighten us all! It's what we look to you to do. . . Thanks!

the best thing about this album is that it can be easily called "THE BEST OF THE TRAVELING WILBURYS" Thanks Bob, George, Tom, Jeff, and Roy! Every song is amazing!

The Traveling Wilburys consisted of George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. They recorded two albums during the two years they were together.
"Wilburys" was a slang term coined by Harrison and Lynne as a reference to recorded "flubs" that could be eliminated during the mixing stage ("We'll bury them in the mix"). Harrison suggested "The Trembling Wilburys" as the group's name, but Lynne suggested using "Traveling" instead. Everyone agreed. |
||
Which came first, the Wilbury's or Orbison's "You Got It" (with most of the same cast)?
It is amazing to listen to these songs and how each of their individual styles are there, but blended perfectly. Other collaboratio n s of the time, like Cloud Nine and Full Moon Fever, show that these guys were a great match. The perfect supergroup has only happened twice (CSNY's the other). I guess that means we're due next year. |

Until recently you could not buy these albums in the US. I had to order them off the Internet for a friend and they were actually shipped to me from Russia!

||
thank you!!!! at least I know there are some people that know the timeline!!!

No cm, none 'went on to excel'. They all had already excelled prior to Wilburys. That is why the TravWillys are considered a super group. Geoff Lynne had several years of enormous stardom way back in the 70s. Orbison was big as far back as the early 60s... prior to the Beatles!! Even Petty's best years were before jamming with the Wilburys.
|
||
at least Tom Petty went on to excel and excel he did!!!! What a great group that would probaly still be jamming if they all had made it!!!!

||
so much powerful talent in a group that never emerged however,they didn't give a hoot..In it for fun only

I think I heard that Del Shannon was supposed to join the group after Orbison died, he committed suicide though.

Paul Shaffer, bandleader of the Letterman Show, played keyboards for the group as well!

Supergroup (1988-90) started over dinner in Santa Monica, California by George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan.
