Ulrich Schnauss
Biography
A somewhat mysterious producer from Berlin, Germany, Ulrich Schnauss debuted under his own name in 2001 with Far Away Trains Passing By. Released by City Centre Offices, the album seemingly came from nowhere and wound up on several journalists' year-end favorites lists, impressing many with a beguiling level of charm that referenced the shimmer of the Cocteau Twins and the beat mining of the Black Dog. 2003's A Strangely Isolated Place, which was much closer to shoegaze than U.K. techno, was followed in 2007 by Goodbye. Schnauss has also had his hands in a number of other projects, including Hexaquart (minimal techno-house) and Ethereal 77 (drum'n'bass), in addition to engineering work for a number of other artists. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

Shimmers like Simon Raymonde, beats like Acid Jazz and weaves like Budd.

Ulrich is the man. Really no one can beat his style.
Really great music, just mellow, but really interesting stuff if you dissect it. It's a wonderful sound that wraps the synths around you and guides you into the unknown.

i discovered him thru a Moby playlist. everytime one of his songs came up i was like "this is calming, inspiring, and leaves me to my own thoughts. WHO IS THIS?" and sure enough it kept on being Ulrich Schnauss

OneMansOpini o n > Ulrich Schnauss brought back heart to german electronica.
When I listen to his pieces I feel I am watching a deeply spiritual movie or I am transported to guided imagery journey. |
I think of Ulrich Schnauss as a 'modern day' Beethoven. He is unbelievably talented!! I saw him a few years ago at the 'Knitting factory, in Hollywood; he took me on a fantastic journey! Leave it to the Germans, for everyone that comes out of there, is amazing!

man i knew about this guy before he even came out with music...

I thought everybody knew Ulrich Schnauss. I must be living in a parallel universe....

I live in the USA, sorry about that, and discovered him about six months ago; he is tremendous.

One of my favorite artists of all-time. The US has no clue who this guy even is and that sucks bad. I have been listening since the beginning.

I have to totally agree with bqullo9, definitely great to work by and to chill by also, and I too always instantly recognize a U.S. song when it comes on. Great stuff.
i realize everytime this guy's music comes on, i start nodding and bopping to the groove of every one of his songs. Kinda brings a smile to my face. Nice work Ulrich!
