Vampire Weekend
Biography
Describing their sound as "Upper West Side Soweto," New York City's Vampire Weekend mixes preppy, well-read indie rock with joyful, Afro-pop-inspired melodies and rhythms. Ezra Koenig, Chris Baio, Rostam Batmanglij, and Chris Tomson formed the band early in 2006, when they were finishing up their studies at Columbia University. Taking their name from a movie Koenig made during his freshman year, the band started out by playing gigs at the university's literary societies and at parties. Word spread about Vampire Weekend's unique sound and lyrics ("Oxford Comma"'s title refers to comma use in a list of three items), buoyed by the band's self-released EPs, which they recorded in locations spanning their Columbia dorm rooms to a family barn. The buzz around Vampire Weekend reached a peak in 2007: that summer, the band embarked on their biggest tour yet, made several appearances at that year's CMJ Music Marathon, and signed with XL Records that fall. The Mansard Roof EP was Vampire Weekend's debut release for the label, followed by their self-titled first album early in 2008. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide

Once I heard Walcott, I was hooked. Great, great band. Makes a lot of music look pretty sucky.
|
||
I love this band. When I heard their first radio song "A-Punk" I thought they were just a strange band with an even stranger name. Boy was I wrong. Their whole album is pretty great.

M79, Oxford Comma, The Kids Dont Stand a Chance, A-Punk.
Actually, all of their songs are really awesome. Harpsichord + Drums + Electric Guitar + Orchestra = Success. |

I love these guys. They bring a sense of fun youthfulness we must never loose. They played at All Points West 2009 and they sounded great. Can't get enough of their campy but profound lyrics.
|
||
I'm dying for a new album already. GET THE F**K OUT OF CAPE COD, WALCOTT

not likely, i'm pretty sure Vampire Weekend is bigger than you even know. They've been featured in several pretty popular movies, lately, Stepbrothers and I love you, man. That's just to name a few.
Check out Discovery if you like Vamp Weekend. Ra Ra Riot combined with some members of Vamp Weekend is a recipe for amazingness! Check the song Orange Shirt. They don't have a page up on here yet, since they are basically brand new and only have one single. Maybe check for a myspace. |
||
I like these guys. They remind me a little of old Police tracks, particularly the song Punk.

:) everyone check out my music video for Campus on youtube! "RaychelRawr "

neasnihil is typing nonsense. what a waste of life to type such nonsense. sorry you feel that way neasnihil. mabe you should skip the next sucky song you hear instead of wasting your life away typing nonsense

Paul Simon rehashed with a simplicity over creativity attitude that leads to uninspired songs that have the effect of looking at a glass bauble. Pretty to look at, but ultimately useless and run of the mill like all mass produced consumer products.

ahhhhh, Vampire Weekend, is it possible to express my love for this band? Not likely.
But i can sure try. They are so different and they do it so damned well. Some bands try way too hard to be unique and they end up compromising quality for that effect. I think Vampire Weekend does it perfectly. Every song from their self titled debut is pure bliss. From the first chord of the very first song to the last chord of the last song, i feel happy about everything. |

It's about me and two friends at my school who know about Vampire Weekend.
I keep trying to spread them, but it's hard to do when you're the weird anime kids. xD; I had no idea they were on MTV, that makes me very sad. They are so much better than that, but it's also good to see these kids getting some GOOD music every once in a while. Every song just screams sunshine, beaches, coast, which makes me smile in my little mountain state. XD Bryn is my favorite song. |

I was listening to Vampire Weekend way before like anyone at my school ever heard of them, and then all of a sudden, EVERYONE was singing A-punk. I was confused, until I found out that it was on MTV all the time. And then I bitched out someone for not knowing any other songs by them but saying they loved VW. >.>
Long live Vampire Weekend! I love their sound! :D |
||
ha i love how everyone has a different way to describe the genre-style of vampire weekend. its next to impossible.. but i would say something like "Oxford-indi e - p u n k " hah can't go wrong with that. I'm Anti-MTV, so i didn't even know A-punk was on that channel, how sad, but eh what can you do.. keep it up VW, continue to show up that "power-pop" and wanna be "indie" scene! :)

Vampire Weekend's just got a sound all their own. It's that punkish-indi e with the sweet keyboard and tribal influences (Cape Cod Kwassa Kwasaa). They've done an awesome job on their first album and i know i cant wait for the next. Keep up the good work!

||
my music teacher introduced them to me, and i love them, they have a nice sound.
