Velvet Revolver
Biography
Velvet Revolver began with a spring 2002 jam session that reunited ex-Guns N' Roses bandmates Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), and Matt Sorum (drums) on-stage. With the discovery that their chemistry was still going strong, the trio began pushing around some new music and auditioning singers for what became known as "the Project." Early entries included ex-Buckcherry shouter Josh Todd and Neurotica's Kelly Shaefer; both became acquainted with the cutting room floor. By early 2003, the existence of "the Project" -- and its quest for a singer -- was common knowledge, so much so that VH1 sent cameras to document the search. Dave Kushner (Wasted Youth, Dave Navarro) also joined up as second guitarist. Troubled STP-er Scott Weiland came on board next. He and the band clicked immediately and recorded a hyper piece of glitter metal for the Hulk soundtrack called "Set Me Free." By June, "the Project" had been renamed Velvet Revolver, and Weiland was officially made its lead singer, though possession charges stemming from a May bust were still outstanding. The band signed a deal with RCA and spent the rest of 2003 fitting in gigs and recording sessions around Weiland's court-ordered rehab.
RCA next announced an April 2004 release for Contraband, Velvet Revolver's full-length debut; the date was then pushed to May, and finally to June. That spring, Weiland labored through court dates and recovery as Slash and Duff did advance press for Contraband, and fan anticipation for the album grew. VR also released the single "Slither," a rabid, ambitious rocker guided by Slash's signature guitar sound. The single sidled steadily up the active rock charts, and when Contraband finally dropped, it was to general appreciation for its mix of STP and GNR signatures and its surprising turn toward hedonistic maturity. Velvet Revolver's sophomore effort, Libertad, followed in 2007. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

I love contraband, its a much better then a lotta new albums. Hell Libertad was better then Chinese Democracy. I kinda like of Velvet Revolver more then GnR. Weiland's voice sounds better which the overall sound of the music
i agree with "vebal" 100%
so true contraband is way better than chinese democrap |
Scott's voice on "Fall to Pieces" is excellent. Vintage Weiland going back to old school STP.
Contraband is a much better CD than Chinese Democracy. It also sounds more like GnR in the '80s. Big middle finger to Axl!
but scott isnt a pothead ... his drug is heroin.
Libertad was kind of a pathetic attempt to show that Scott Weiland wasn't a pothead. But last fight and let it roll are great.
Their music's okay but they're AWESOME for shoving it in Axl's thickhead face
you know, i'll be honest. i never even knew that this was a mixture of STP and GnR. of course, i also never caught on that Audioslave was Soundgarden plus Rage.
HOWEVER. <3 both. maybe these guys a bit more.. :P |
interesting. i thought they had it on here before. kinda nuts
Funny they dont have Libertad on here.... Hmmmm wonder why? Maybe because it SUCKED?
I saw them in San Antonio and it was one of the best performances I've seen.
dont give a s**t what you all say, i loved this band. great musicians, great singer ... and ya, some singers are replacable, but for me replacing scott weiland is the end of this one. the trio of scott, slash, and duff is what got me into it. take out any of those and its not doing it for me anymore. saw them twice and scott put on a great show both times. i did hear some awful things tho bout other shows. shouldve stayed off the drugs scott!on the flip side, f**kin stoked stp got back together!
LOL
Who is it? I know "Slash & Friends" are touring, but I didn't think they were going to put out an album. |
What do you mean "almost?" He floats a few inches above the stage.
I think "Slash & friends" should justs get a new singer and move on. Singers are replaceable, with few exceptions. |
Velvet revolver is amazing the only reason they might seem horrible to a retard like angels of anarchy is because Scott Weiland was high in almost every performance.
you know any who dislikes this band is in mourn for axel f***ing rose. get over it. he sucked. gnr was good. but axel sucked
i'm so glad they might break up-this is an awful band.contriv e d , u n o r i g i n a l grossly overrated.pr o g r a m m e d for money.not art or even rock and roll.
Super groups are no new thing travling wilbarrys . audioslave and velvet revoler are just anothe incarntion of the supergroups. tier music is always good and solid radio play but nothing really lasting.. btw I like vr and aslv
Velvet Revolver is such an awesome outpouring of sleezy angst. They drip with the swagger of all those big egos put together. I think Scott Weiland was a perfect fit; an essential element of the band's lewdness, and I don't know if he's replaceable. . . b u t with all that said, I hope Slash takes a more central role in the band's sound as they try to move on; he is a guitar god.
Saw them sometime during the tour for Libertad. Alice in Chains opened and I could not hear afterward. Good times.
This was a good band. Saw them in San Antonio. It was basically Guns 'n Roses with a different singer, and they rocked. They definitely showed that, while Axle might be a good writer, he didn't make the band great.
What is it about singers that they have this need to ruin a good band? I think we should line them up and kick them all right square in the junk, starting with Axl Rose. Kick him 2 times.
These guys area homo-gyny of the best of 100's of bands. The problem is they lack individualis m . Maybe a good place to start. And then endo is predictibal.
Just for a mind f**k, on the name Velvet Revoler. From Slash and Dufs ex band Take gun you got revoler, velvet. What does a rose feel like'''''''' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' Something to think about. Hope they find a singer fast.We are missing great rock music. Alot of super talent there. popsritch
scott screwd up make it smple . great cemestry great band . why he cant get over his arrogance is amazing. we have all f,d up why cant he realize something that simple . get over it . this band had alot to look forward to but im sure his antics werent acceptable to the band . no bach no cornell i hope . lets give those guys great credit but they need new blood . fresh is the word . im anticipating they will do just that .
Oh for real.. Cornell with Velvet Revolver.. that would kick some serious a**.. Ausdioslave just so happens 2 be my 2nd fav. band.. and Velvet Revolver is like 3rd.. so hell ya.. i dont see sebastion bach doin it.. they're commin out with an online website and having ppl send in vids. 2 pick their new lead i heard.. i saw the website too.. but i dont get how they're gunna look through all the vids. it'd take forever.. especially if it's open to any average joe... but it's still pretty kick a**
it wasn't Scotts band name, read a book. Slash had it originally as 'Revolver' then he brought it to the group and thats when scott said black velvet revolver. and f**k sebastian bach that guys a f**king loser and a talentless hack.
Izzy sings? news to me.. Matt Sorum says that there should be an annoucement comming up soon, and its gonna be big |
Yeah, there've been a number of people who would make good singers. Cornell, Sebastian Bach, some want Izzy Stradlin back. I'm personally hoping for Eric Dover (from Slash's Snakepit's first album It's Five O'Clock Somewhere), but I've heard that we'll find out in a few weeks. (I also heard they might change the name; perhaps to not remind them of Scott anymore (he did kindof name the band; his idea was Black Velvet Revolver, and Slash suggested shortening it))
on a another note, i hear rumors that Cris Cornell from Soundgarden and Audislave is gonna be the new lead singer. just a rumor, buti think that would be f**king sick man!!!if anyone else hears anything let me know please
atbarker, i aslo saw them live on that same tour, Kill Hannah was on that card too right? anyway, definalty one hell of a show. im a little dissapointed in the comments made by scott weiland recently i read saying that he named the band(slash's book would dispute that) and he also said there was tension between the band members. which ones? THEM AND YOU becuase they;re all clean, your the one still on drugs and im seeing STP in two days so it pisses me off even more.
