VNV Nation
Biography
The electronic project VNV ("Victory Not Vengeance") Nation was conceived in London in 1990 by Ronan Harris, debuting in May of that year with the 12-inch "Body Pulse." "Strength of Youth" followed a few months later, and at the end of the year Harris relocated to Toronto, where VNV Nation opened for Nitzer Ebb on their Canadian tour. After moving back to Europe, Harris released only a handful of compilation tracks in the years to follow before signing with the German label Discordia in 1995 to issue the full-length Advance and Follow. Three years later, VNV Nation resurfaced on another German label, Off-Beat, an alliance which generated the LP Praise the Fallen as well as the EP Solitary. Empires, which was issued with another European distributor Dependent, and on Metropolis in the U.S., followed in the spring of 2000. Singles such as "Standing" and "Dark Angel" were club mainstays, boasting Ronan Harris' love for pulsating club rhythms and his developing seascapes of dark ambient waves. Mix projects Genesis.1 and Genesis.2 followed that format in 2001, giving a sneak preview to VNV Nation's Futureperfect. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

Laura370- Don't forget about Illusion. That one is just... so powerful in so many ways.

"was you can't have light without the dark."
I completely agree. Music that is purely 'depressing' / ' p e s s i m i s t i c ' doesn't move me, it just brings me down, while music 'happy'/'opt i m i s t i c ' music is senseless and annoying. You need the depressing stuff, or all the hope and happiness means nothing. That's what VNV Nation does so well, with songs like the farthest star and left behind particularly . |

What I meant to finish saying... (sorry comment was so long...)
was you can't have light without the dark. that's what's so great about our genre of music. It covers a broad spectrum... :) |
True what Vash said. But most mainstream unfortunatel y don't know the term Synth Pop or Future Pop... so Industrial fits as the nice umbrella term for Synth pop, EBM, Terror EBM, Power Noise, etc.
Also to no_persona_h e r e , Synth Pop also tends to be more upbeat, optimistic, future oriented, etc. in general anyways... EBM tends to be the more harsh, war themed, religious (think :Wumpscut:), sci-fi themed (hexRx "My Eyes are Red") music, etc. It all goes together. You can't have light without t |
nph- 'cept VNV isn't Industrial- they're electro/synt h / E B M - very much EBM actually. Industrial is more like Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Front 242, KMFDM (currently on tour!! Check your local venues), Pig, Rammstein, etc.
Finally, an industrial band that doesn't involve senseless violence, satanistic themes, gothic images, etc., into their music. Thank God.

Liked these guys from my first hit of "Electronaut " . It can truly be said that VNV is an all-purpose band. Some songs you can fall asleep to, others to study by, others to absolutely lose it to, and a few that just have a simple, clean message to convey.

Good music. Enough said. |

This is one of those bands that I've always really liked but never bothered to spend any money on them. One of these days...
I love love love love love VNV.
<3 Everything on Judgement and Empires blows my mind. |
Testament= one of the greatest songs EVER written. That song is so god damn powerful in its lyrics and music. If you're not feeling me here, give it another listen.
Stupidly ginormous fan of VnV. It seems I love just about anything these guys throw down. I've never been to a better show than the one I saw on their Judgement tour here in Denver at the Gothic. Very energetic.
Futureperfec t is a great jumping off point if you want to hear these guys for the first time. If not, Matter and Form does a pretty good job as well, though that album is quite a bit more instrumental than their past issuings. Love em...love em...love em. |
I agree that their older music is better; although, I do enjoy their newer music as well. Saw VNV on their Judgement tour and it was definately a good time. Kingdom is probably my favorite song of theirs.
MY bro got me hook on them when he used to go to goth culbs and i use some of there songs in the gym ,.......
shiz? don't use that term w/this type of music, please .
so...after the drugs, did ya grow up? and you think i'm havin a bad day? |
I agree with RaverOfDarkn e s s . Genesis is an amazing song, but then again so is the rest of their music.
guys. guys all im seeing is the new songs from vnv, listen to there older stuff. compared to there older stuff matter and form and judgement are horrible cd's. Listen to dark angel, honour, solitary, standing. They have so many good songs. In my opinion there new stuff sucks.
Ahhh. Electronic music. My first love. Genesis is a great song.
Testament is such a great, upbeat song. One of those songs that would be a great to listen to over and over on a road trip.
I couldn't believe that they would actually make it Kansas City! Great show and of course the music just gets you where you need it. I would love to choreograph a full dance concert to their music!!
