Wolfmother
Biography
Truly a band out of time, the Australian power trio Wolfmother were conceived in 2000 -- about 30 years too late, considering that the musicians' psychedelic brand of proto-heavy metal sounded similar to the late-'60s/early-'70s craft of Blue Cheer and Black Sabbath. Comprised of vocalist/guitarist Andrew Stockdale, bassist/organist Chris Ross, and drummer Myles Heskett, Wolfmother took the initiative of recording a four-track demo in 2004 for the purpose of booking shows. So sterling were the results, however, that the band soon found itself re-recording the material for official release via the local label Modular Records. A second EP, Dimensions, appeared in 2006, and Wolfmother made the jump to the majors in early 2006, courtesy of an American distribution deal with Modular through Interscope Records. A self-titled album debut appeared in May and reached the Top 40, resulting in a trophy for Best Hard Rock Performance at the 2007 Grammy Awards. Co-founders Ross and Heskett left the group the following year, leaving Stockdale and new members Ian Peres (bass, keyboards), Aidan Nemeth (guitar), and Dave Atkins (drums) to carry the torch with 2009's Cosmic Egg. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
Selected Discography
I like how I can listen to the Wolfmother album and pick out the "stolen" sounds of famous bands... Jethro flute, Moby Dick drums, Bad Company guitar into, etc.
But they are still cool in my book, I spent an entire summer with these guys in my deck. |

the type of music they play reminds me of led zepplin and such....ther e is only one problem that makes them so that they could never be a zepplin
they suck a** it wouldnt matter if it is 2009 or 1969 or anywhere in between...th e s e guys suck....and whats worse is,its not that they dont play their instruments well, its that they sound like dog crap hitting the sidewalk.... p h a i l NEXT! |

Yeah, I dig these current bands with an classic sound. White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age, The Datsuns, the Black Keys. Nobody does like these guys, though. Their stuff sounds like it should be coming off of a vinyl disc. Excellent.

I like the music of the 70's a hell of a lot better than the bullsh*t that's coming out now. I'm glad that these guys sound like their from another time.

I really hate this review. The whole "out of time" aspect bugs the crap out of me. John Williams is classical but isn't considered "out of his time."

I love Wolfmother and always have and I can't wait for the new album!! The new band sounds great. Back Round is an amazing single and I can't wait for the rest

Listened to dimension while playing rugby 06 and loved it. Favorite song on the album.

Why would you form a band and stay in it for 7 years then leave when it finally makes it big?
Too bad the bassist and drummer left, but its good Stockdale is gonna keep going. Hope he finds good enough replacements , cuz the first bassist was pretty damn good. However, you can pretty much never tell the difference between two drummers of comparable talent. But of course there are obvious exceptions.

Their eponymous album is one of my absolute favorites. I was appalled when I heard they broke up, and thoroughly relieved when I heard Stockdale recruited new members. I'm very, very excited for Cosmic Egg.
sounds so much like ozzy, and do i hear a jazz flute in a few songs?
Wolfmother is definitely up there in my list of favorite bands. It's great to hear a classic sound in rock again. White Unicorn is one of my all time faves.
Wolfmother have quickly become one of my favorite bands, stipped down, pure rock. Can't wait for the new disc.
The new 4 man line up for Wolfmother is even more powerful. 2 GUITARS on Cosmic Egg.
yea these guys are pretty good..kinda white stripes meets cream or something...
dude, these guys are awsome no matter what skull says...
dude your not going see these guys go out of the light for a while |
oi, its a sad day when pandora commenters seem to have the same intelligence level of youtubers
Lame a** retro wanna-be band. This shite may pass in Australia but c'mon 1960's are over. The front man even insists on dressing circa 1969...
lol well last i heard the bassist had to leave cuz he and his chick friend were having a kid. but idk if thats still the reason.
i f**kin love wolfmother. im just a little mad they havnt made another album yet. and the article dosnt have much to say about them which is just kinda off setting if you catch my drift (or if you dont) but them and zpilin are very different bands. more jimi hendrix like and a little bit blacksabothi s h but not enough to be mentioned in the article. but i still love them.
alright alright. just b/c a band has a classic sound doesnt automaticall y get them compared to Zeppelin. These guys cant hold a candle to Zeppelin and the comparisons arent even accurate...m a y b e Mountain? Maybe? Anyway there are s hit ton of bands doing the "throwback" sound (and better), these guys just happened to get on Guitar Hero, and that's why there's a jillion comments
What do you mean a few members were replaced! Theres only a few of them in the first place!?! Man, I can't believe that they broke up! This toataly bites.
They didn't really break up, but a few members left and were replaced.
Wolfmother was such a great album. I would say that there is about a half dozen hits on that album.
wait... they broke up???? i saw them at BFD in SF just like... 2 years ago!!! Joker and the Thief is an awesome song... really, they broke up???? that sucks a**...
