Yanni
Biography
Yanni's grandiose keyboard style is both accessible and exciting, two elements that have led to his success in the realm of adult alternative radio. His explosive, pop-influenced instrumentals and romantic pianistic ballads have also made him a popular touring and recording artist for the Private Music label. In addition to his original television, commercial, and film scores, Yanni's music has been used extensively on programs like Wide World of Sports and coverage of the Olympic games. This aspect of his career seems especially appropriate when you consider that he achieved early success not as a musician, but as a member of the Greek national swimming team. (He broke the national freestyle record at age 14.)
Born in Kalamata, Greece, Yanni arrived in the U.S. after high school and obtained a degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota before diving headfirst into music. It didn't take long for the self-taught keyboardist and composer to establish himself as a studio musician, jingles composer, and producer. After gaining an impressive cult following for his first independently released album, Yanni was picked up by Private Music and has become one of the label's best-selling artists.
One of the most visible artists in the contemporary instrumental realm, Yanni's rise to fame was expedited in the early '90s by his romantic relationship with actress Linda Evans, which gained him coverage on mainstream programs like Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous as well as appearances on the daytime talk-show circuit. ~ Linda Kohanov, All Music Guide

Yanni is one of the greats but was better without the orchestras and concert groups playing.

no matter what is going on in my life, Yanni's music works for me. it makes good times sweeter and hard times a bit softer.

Yanni is by far one of the most influential people out there. You know, it not the way he llooks, but how he performs and expresses himself with his music, and that's how musicians become great musicians. Now that he has included voice in his music, it makes more of an impact that much more. Just listen to his newest CD, and his other great works and you'll see what I mean. Absolutely wonderful and I hope he continues for many years to come!!

The artists singing for Yanni Voices are incredible, but it's a load of you-know-wha t that the artists apparently can only be heard by either buying tickets to his concert or buying the CD from his website. Other than a few fansites and a wiki stub, it's like Nathan Pacheco didn't even exist before Yanni 'discovered' him.

We saw Yanni last nite in concert in Austin, Texas. What a show! Voices...put t i n g lyrics to some of his older songs. The vocalists were awesome as was the whole experience. As far as his hair goes, yes it is short and from where we were sitting, I couldn't tell if he even had a mustache. I just want to say after all of these years of performing (about 30 years), Yanni is still SO PASSIONATE about his music. Go to see him if you can, an wonderful experience you will never forget!

For a picture of his new look, google "Yanni concert" and select the main one. His picture is there. He had long hair when I saw him in Houston...ju s t clarifying my unclear message. Sorry.
For those concerned about Yanni's hair...well, he has cut it and thinned out his mustache. Looks good, but he looked good the other way, too. I saw him in concert in Houston about six years ago and it just blew me away. Such a large group of wonderful musicians and some really strange instruments. Beautiful voices. Just a wonderful evening I still cherish.

We are doing a duet for my new husband and my late mother who I lose when I was 16. Try the song Whispers in the dark! That's the song we will do together on my wedding day!!
I love this artist! I've been listening to him since grade school and was able to see him in concert a few years ago. I was going to see him again next month, but the concert was cancelled.

I am so glad to see that Yanni touches others the same way he touches me. When Linda said He touched her very soul I know exactly what she is referrint too. He is my most listened to music and I like many styles of music. I too am going to his concert in May in Minneapolis. I am so thrilled to be able to see him once again. He and his orchestra are amazingly talented!!
I have been a Yanni fan since my husband was deployed to the first Gulf War. His music touched deep in my soul in that frightful time. He is a true genius as a writer and performer. I have seen him in concert at least a dozen times in the years since and have tickets for his May 31 "Voices" concert in Omaha. This musician and his proteges will put on a very entertaining and inspiring show! I am never disappointed !
I just caught Yanni Voices on PBS too! My dad has always been a fan, but this new group of amazingly talented voices plus Yanni's talent is trully unmatched.

This is another guy that I would love to play music with. I bet he is just really nice by the expressions he has on his face when he plays too!

I had NEVER heard of this guy before. Not sure how, but it's true. Ran across the "Voices" preview with him on PBS last night, WTTB here in Chicago and was just floored. He is coming here on May29th and I already have tickets for it! My wife can't believe I've never heard of him. Makes me sad that I've missed so much, but am now positively loving catching up on all that is Yanni. What a talent.

I LOVE Yanni's music!! It is calming and bouncy at the same time. And soooooo pretty! |

Yanni's Music leaves me actually thinking about the what the song could portray. When I hear In the Morning Light, I feel like I'm in a beautiful clearing and a series of natural wonders occur, or Marching Season, which makes me actually think about the possible personalitie s of the seasons and how they incorporate themselves into the song. Music that makes me think is actually quite thrilling for me musically and emotionally, and Yanni is the perfect artist for that.

We are performing together at my Wedding! The Song, Whispers in the Dark! For my mom who died when I was 16! It's a gift for her and my new husband!!
Heehee, how did this message board that's supposed to be about his music get to be so focused on his hair and mustache?
Good music is very hard to come by, why so critical on the hair? don't we live in a world now where almost anything goes? Please, grow up people!
Classical artists had wigs. LOL. |
