While I appreciate the courteous tone of your comment Ms. Jimenez-Nune z , I really do have to differ. In your two sentences, there's an important difference. "You and I are between magic" has "I" as one of the SUBJECTS of the sentence. In the other "There is magic, etc" the word "I" is the OBJECT. It may be silly but the rule is that "I" is used as the subject of the sentence, "me" is used as the object. www.grammarb o o k . c o m / g r a m m a r / p r o n o u n . a s p explains the diff. Actually, Matthew, its not ungrammatica l . There are both cases of You and Me and You and I, it merely depends on what sintactical function the pronoun is serving. In this case, it is correct. The way to put it is simply changing the order of the elements of the sentence and if it still is grammatical, then it works.
example: There is magic between you and I You and I are between magic. (if we purposely remove the pronoun "you" it will be: I am between magic, obviously changing the tense of |

I've been listening to this song since it first came out in 1987; I don't know why but I just can't get over the line "...between you and I..." I know it rhymes and that I need to lighten up a whole bunch, but it's just BAD GRAMMAR. There...I've gotten it off my chest...we now return you to your regularly scheduled music.
