First heard in South Africa in the 1980's as a show from a wonderful producer called Taubie Kuschlick in the Chelsea Hotel in Hillbrow, Johannesburg , when Hillbrow was the place to be - the Greenwich Village of Jo'burg - now,sadly, a squalid, violent, drug-ridden, inner-city slum.
The show was called" Jacques Brel is alive and well and living in Paris". Laurika Rauch was in it, and was a very special South African singer - actually still is! |
