Interesting that "Stairway to Heaven" is listed as a similar song above;I've always said that "Free Bird" is the "Stairway to Heaven" of the South. starwolf8 - I agree about "Tuesdays Gone" as a good listen that's not so often played. I grew up in Jacksonville FL, the home town of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and didn't care for them so much at the time due to them being played constantly, and me being a little fed up with southern culture - I appreciate them much more now - a mighty force in Rock and Roll

I'd like to start by saying this song is flat out face melting....
but it has the tendency to get overplayed because of it's appearance in guitar hero. at least i've noticed that. it's a little hard to accept when you're sixteen and friends walk up and go "Dude have you heard this song?......" and i have to say, "Yea... since like i was five man." but seriously awesome song. => |

this song was written as a tribute to the late Dwanyne Alman who heavily influenced Ronnie and gave the band the big break they needed taking them on tour with them as a warm up band. when the song 1st came out alot of people thought the band was breaking up.

Is that right Joe? And I suppose you can listen to this song on a non-stop 24 hour, seven day-a-week loop and still love it like the first time you heard it? My point is if you have too much of a good thing then it would cease to be special. I think this song is special. I think it is Skynyrd's masterpiece. I think it sucks that smart-asses at bars sarcasticall y request this song to performing bands. And another thing. F**k you a**hole. Who do you think you are by using homophobic slurs?

This song is awesome but the bastards who run FM radio killed it by overplaying to the point of self-parody. Ronnie Van Zant & co. played OTHER good songs you know. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
