Yeah you're right its a strong comparison at the beginning but the pillows go a different direction later on in the song.

Been spending time playing this on guitar. The 8 bar turnaround used in the verse and the chorus (but not the pre-chorus in between) is VERY close to the 8 bar progression in Pachelbel's Canon.

What an awesome hook! Yes, I can clearly hear the Beatles influence in the verse. That amazing chorus is coming from somewhere else, though. There's still some Beatles in it, but it's also got a certain soaring sadness to it that lifts it up past just a pop throwaway number. (Not that the Beatles did nothing but pop throwaway songs--it's just that many modern bands that draw from their sound tend to produce little else.)
