deFinitonofE p i c : That's a good way of looking at it. I don't think Maynard actually wants LA to be destoyed, I think he just hates modern LA culture ("F**k l ron hubbard and F**k all his clones/F**k all these gun-toting hip gangster wannabes." He also says f**k tattoos, junkies and "smiley glad-hands with hidden agendas/f**k all these dysfunctiona l , insecure actresses." He forgot: f**k Perez Hilton, professional songwriters and reality shows.

hahah... we ain't going no where. and i better not hear this song on any of those movie commercials for 2012 either. =b
!circus sideshow! |
@ RPea77. don't listen to this song if u don't this world is going "shift". becasue when 2013 comes i wanna see it all go down.
No, they just don't have any lyrics except for the mainstream bands. Mostly at least.
The earth isn't going to shift... =b
2012 is the recycling of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar used by the Mayans. Only theorists think that the restarting of that calendar cycle means something significant for our universe or life on this planet. hehehehe.... . when 2013 roles around and we're still here, I'll let you know how funny you are to think the world is gonna die sometime in 2012. |
we may have been here for 4 thousand years but in 2012 12-12 the earth is going to shift so we just might get to see it all flush away. i dont think that learning to swim is going o help anyone.
lol. very intelligent comment, adrienjq. me no listen to smarty pants until he gets his mouth washed out with soap...whooo almost lost it there, thanks for the laugh :D long live tool!

Every tool song has a singular meaning. But part of the reason tool doesn't include lyrics is because they want the listener to interpret the songs for them selves. They want you to experience the song and think for yourself. If you knew tool you would know that Vash.
mother nature shakes her shoulders and we fall by her wayside, can we do anything to change this? we've been here for 4 thousand years the earth is 2.5 mil years old, that is like a postage stamp on a football field.
toolmmm- Their lyrics are NOT open to interpretati o n , you jackarse. Ravel is dead-on with his description of the song- a very powerful song with lyrics loaded with intellect, foresight and morbidity. Try again, kid.
dudes. tool writes their lyrics to be interpreted in whatever way you want.
no one's interpretati o n is wrong, it's your own opinion. |

The lyrics allude to the popular myth that an earthquake big enough could break So. Cali off of the U.S. at the San Andreas rift and it would sink in the ocean."Flush it all away," "Arizona Bay," "Fault lines that cannot sit stll." Actually, if that ever happens, California would just move North, past Oregon.
Not a resentment towards mankind, but the petty, materialisti c s**t we in modern society seem to hold so high, whn in the long run it won't matter. It gives us an image of some near apocalyp |
The song chronicles the hopeless he feels at man's inability to pull back from the path of total self destruction we are so hell bent on. And that mans departure will signal the rebirth of paradise.
Because of people like G, who should live in LA, this world is mentally retarded.
Deep. This song is not just about LA. It's about desiring the destruction of all the things that make humanity detestable.. . . I t s full of resentment toward mankind.
this song has helped me through hard times... the anthem to a bad day
BEAT LA!!! BEAT LA!! BEAT LA!!!
ahhh... the good ol' chant of the Central Valley area... Could you imagine if an earthquake actually did hit the San andreas fault so hard that waters from the Pacific ocean flooded the entire central valley and surrounding areas???? learn to swim fellas. damn... that would suck. F*ck these disfuntional insecure actresses... I'm praying for tidal waves, I wanna see the ground give way, I wanna watch it all go down...mom please flush it all away. |
i sure could use a vacation from this
Bull S**t three ring. cir cus sideshow of freaks in hopeless hole we call L.A the only way to fix it is to flush it all away any f**king time, any f**king day learn to swim, see you down in arizona bay. |

The last couple Tool albums didn't hit me right away. But after giving them multiple listens, they got better each and every time. They are best as a complete album and not just one song.
To blackmagi2, all of the tool songs have a double meaning, so yes, I guess you can say aenema has a hidden meaning.
G, I felt the same way about the song at first, so I totally understand what you are saying, but when I first listened to the lyrics, I realized how great the song was. If you have not listened to the lyrics, I say at least give it a try. What's the worst that could happen? |
Well hell G...perhaps you should check out the lyric portion of the song.
Might help you grasp the whole thing. |
I find this song to be very boring with uninterestin g riffs and a boring solo. I was yawning through this the entire time. The vocalist sounds peaceful, but the dull riffs and drumming make this unappealing to me.
