Well, that's definately one of the catchier bass lines I've heard in a while...

LoL, I love "prominent bass riffs" being on this despite the low tuning of the guitar. Good deal though, means I can use it to my advantage.
But you'd get the same effect if they had it labeled "Use of a sub-octave pedal."
I'd rather have it listed under prominent bass riffs, even if it's not technically true, so that the related music that Pandora's engine brings up more music with a similar sound.
thats kinda what i figured, but i wasnt sure. thanks people! you saved me from agonizing over the instrumentat i o n of seven nation army for the rest of my life.

The White Stripes is a 2 person band, a guitar player/singe r and a drummer. There is no bass guitar in their songs. The prominent bass riff is from the deep tones of the type of guitar and the pedal he uses.
your right not a bass riff at all. the its def not the best riff ever. Try Big Brown Beaver, or any other song by Primus.
thanks for the info fuzzyrosco. I dont play any of those types of instruments, so i definetly wouldnt have guessed that. i learned something new today ;D
THERE IS NO BASS IN THIS SONG! He uses a sub-octave pedal to make the notes lower. I'm pretty sure The White Stripes never use a bass.
I loove this song!! I was likea freshman in high school when i heard it for the first time and ever since ive like LOVED it.. i dunno if its the bass sound thats a turn on or maybe how jack white looks so mysterious.. l o l whatever it is, i love it. lol
first White Stripes song I heard and I was hooked... picked up their entire cd library. Great stuff.
I'm pretty sure the term grunge was labeled for bands in the '90s such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden - hence the "Seattle sound".
Love this song!!!!!!!! ! ! |
Is there such a thing as '70's grunge? I thought grunge was mostly an '90's phenom... correct me if I'm wrong, please. I hate being musically ignorant.
there is only guitar and bass, jack is using an effects pedal that turns his guitar down an octave which sounds like a bass.
There's a really awesome version of this song (whether it's a cover or the original, I'm not sure) that is jazzy with a female vocalist. Does anyone know the artist for that? I'm pretty stuck....
This track doesn't just have guitar and drums on it. Jack White also plays bass on a lot of the album tracks, on this one it is particularly obvious. When they play live it's usually just the two of them.
for only haveing guitar and drums this is pretty damn sweet. And anyone who dosent like the song plz just dont post, rather then say things like "It sucks!"
This song is soooo damn catchy. I love this. I'm new to the White Strippes, but I definately want to keep listening...
My favorite Stripes song. This is the joint that got me checking for these two. Doesn't matter what you use to make a tune, the vibe/energy/ e m o t i o n is the ONLY thing that matters. This song has those things in spades!
Hey rwtfalexis: I had always assumed they were brother and sister since they do look related...bu t to answer your question, they are actually married. What's interesting is that he took her surname (his real last name is Gillis) - but what else would you expect from Jack White?
Are they brothers and sisters? Cause they sure as hell look like thay are! And they have the same last names
kgirl I ahte to be the one to tell you this but The White Stripes does not have a bassist.
Don't argue about the meaning of Vamping- its in the FAQ. RTFF!!
Needless to say this song has a bass line that is primal and sets up a mood of desperation- I think its awesome! |
