Sorry, but no one does this like Julie Andrews

I love Audrey Hepburn, but she does not sing in the movie. It was sung by Marni Nixon. I also love Julie Andrews singing this musical. Such a beautiful voice and personality! I agree, though, that Pandora should just play the original Broadway cast.
Very very mediocre cast!!!!!
rosmcsm
The one with Julie Andrews Is better
bborrus
I agree with carol032842. Stanley Holloway in the original cast cannot be surpassed.

Great content
very mediocre cast

I have always preferred the original Broadway casts to the movie remakes or revivals on Broadway. Why can't Pandora just play the originals and lose the revivals?

I respect Marni Nixon, but you can't be all things to all musicals. The nasal, almost reedy intonation of Andrews made her one to beat. Cockneys bray (or use to) and JA knew that sound -- she spent a fair amount of time in Tube stations during the air raids talking and singing with real Londoners. The MFL film was a big, fluffy Persian cat of a movie. It should have been a wily mouser ... with a British lead. Thank god the OCR of My Fair Lady exists.

I agree about these performers. No bite to their performances . MFL was, after all, based on GB Shaw's commentary on the caste system and its language. Julie Andrews not only played the part perfectly, but she nailed every note without having to creep up on the high ones. Was a versatile, perfect voice she had.

ha ha ha Henry Higgins just you wait
I'm not a fan of this version. None of the performers measure up to the originals.
Marni Nixon is being honored this year with a Peabody Award for her contribution to American Music. About time! While Julie Andrews is the quintessenti a l Eliza, Marni did a fabulous job, as always. I'm not in the least impressed by Ms. Andreas. She's too much a metro in my opinion for this roll.
That footage of Audrey's performance is also in the DVD extras. She certainly had a good time doing it, and it was a good effort. I kind of thought using Hepburn for the rougher, cockney Eliza would have made an additional contrast to the "refined" Eliza beginning with "I Could Have Danced All Night," but better heads than mine were involved in that decision. LOL
There is footage of Hepburn singing "I Could Have Danced All Night" where the author took her vocal tracks that had been overdubbed and matched them up to the finished footage. You can find it here: http://www.y o u t u b e . c o m / w a t c h ? v = S G I a e 9 N C b d Q . Pleasant sounding and fit for a high school production but not what was needed for a Hollywood musical. Youtube also has clips from Funny Face and Breakfast at Tiffanys which sound like her voice looped in the studio.

Supposedly Audrey Hepburn turned it down at first, because she wanted Julie Andrews to get it, but when she realized that Julie would NOT be given the role, she took it. Julie had her revenge--Mar y Poppins and Sound of Music!
To Chaveleh---- the director cast Audrey Hepburn because of her internationa l popularity, so it wasn't her fault that she was cast and couldn't sing it, as you seem to imply. But Marni covered for her quite nicely.
This is a good discussion from musical theatre fans. . . I agree with clinton hobart below: this is the weakest version ever recorded. Ian Richardson doesn't have the brilliant panache of Rex Harrison, and Christine Andreas is mediocre. Only George Rose delivers a robust performance worthy of the Lerner and Lowe original.

FYI: Marni Nixon did the singing for Natalie Wood in West Side Story, and for the previously mentioned My Fair Lady and King and I. A versatile, yet unknown performer.
And yes, it was Marni Nixon dubbing for Deborah Kerr, too. She was an amazing vocal mimic on top of being an amazing singer.
Marni Nixon sang most of the songs, but it's clearly Hepburn some of the time. My big issue is with anyone other than Rex Harrison or Lesley Howard (not musical)as Higgins.
Audrey Hepburn did a superb job, but it was Marni Nixon who sang. I agree with Chaveleh (are you a fan of Fiddler on the Roof or are you Jewish? I'm only curious because I'm Jewish); it isn't really right to cast someone who won't be doing the singing for a musical. I heard that Audrey Hepburn wanted to sing, but her voice just wasn't strong enough. She actually has a better cockney accent than Julie Andrews, whose voice is a bit too polished. Still, Julie Andrews owns the role in my book.

I love Audrey Hepburn her voice was not that bad. I love My Fair Lady and all of the casts
julie Andrews is the best no comparison
joe88818
Ian't Marni Nixon the one who sang for Deborah Kerr in The King and I also?
clintonhobar t
On the 1964 movie which featured Audrey Hepburn, the songs were dubbed by Marni Nixon. Julie Andrews who is on the Original Broadway Soundtrack was asked to sing for the film but refused due to the fact that she was not in the movie. Personally I think this new version is weakest of the three.
joe88818
Audrey Hepburn didnt sing though. I think she did great in the movie but I think if you are going to be in a musical you should sing your own part not have a voice over.
I have to say that Audrey Hepburn is the best, simply because of the fact that she is Audrey Hepburn and is therefore amazing!
jaime.r
Julie Andrews is the best...no comparison!
Christine Andreas definitely has some of the same timbre to her voice as Julie Andrews, don't you think?
It's Christine Andreas as Eliza.
no it's not
agent4him6
Is this Julie Andrews?
The original Broadway cast album is much better!!!
This album is amazing. An adorable musical that all should see at least once in their lives
