Nevermore

Nevermore straddles the line between power metal, traditional heavy metal, and the contemporary hard rock scene, eschewing the silly theatrics of the "power scene" in favor of a darker tone, while reaping the rewards of melody and the high-flying vocal range of singer Warrel Dane. The roots of the Seattle-based band can be traced back to Sanctuary, with whom Nevermore's Dane and bassist Jim Sheppard recorded two albums. Sanctuary was one of a small handful of late-'80s thrash metal bands to sign with a major label; they even enlisted Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine to produce their debut album. Label-imposed limbo caused the band to grind to a halt, with one member also exiting to pursue more "grunge"-oriented music. Three members of the final lineup of Sanctuary reemerged as Nevermore, inking a worldwide deal with Century Media Records and releasing a punishing eponymous debut album in 1995. The following year saw the band issue a well-received EP, In Memory, that boasted cover tunes as well as Sanctuary material, which pleased many fans.

The Politics of Ecstasy, their second proper album, was a dense, technical masterpiece that displayed the talents of guitarists Pat O'Brian and Jeff Loomis, and drummer Van Williams in particular. But it was with their next opus, the dark and conceptually driven Dreaming Neon Black, that Nevermore really caught the attention of heavy music fans and earned the respect of the heavy metal press. Voted Album of the Year by many publications, 1999's Dreaming Neon Black was a tour de force that highlighted Dane's soaring vocal range. It also included newcomer (and former guitarist for Forbidden) Tim Calvert, who replaced O'Brian when he split to join Cannibal Corpse. After successful tours with Iced Earth and Mercyful Fate, the band knew that they had a tough job ahead of them following up the well-received album. Now a four-piece after the exit of Calvert, Nevermore entered a Texas studio with producer Andy Sneap and crafted a new album that adeptly blended contemporary heavy sounds with traditional heavy metal. Dead Heart in a Dead World was released in 2000, and was supported on the road with a full U.S. tour with Swedish metal band In Flames and labelmates Shadows Fall. ~ Ryan J. Downey, Rovi

Nevermore is best metal band ever
Jeff Loomis is metal guitar he is a god!!! He doesn't get the attention he deserves
danjstew2
not enough on jeff loomis. Warrel kicks a**, along with Van, but Jeff is god. Few guitarists or intrsumental i s t in history can hope to compare to his level of technical mastery
I'm a huge nevermore fan,so huge I have a nevermore tattoo down the length of my arm. I am happy pat left to join cannibal because cannibal is and always has been my #1 fav band. I have been a fan since I seem sanctuary at pain in the grass in 1988 open for candlebox. Long live Jeff loomis he going to do bigger and better
j.r.ross
you cant beat the power of jeff loomis and chris broderick combined.
Was a fan of these guys from the Sanctuary days. Warrel Dane always had an amazing voice. I do kind of miss his higher-end belts but understand that it wouldn't fit into Nevermore's style.
All we need is Dreaming Neon Black.
skatedude931
jeff loomis will always be my favourite guitarist
Nevermore has earned their place among the metal gods.
I got introduced to this band by one of their later guitar players (Steve Smyth) really nice guy. Great band.
Jeff lumus is from here where i live, great guitarist. I seen them 4 times through the years and played a festival with them when i was in nightmares End. warrel is awesome !
i've said it before and i'll say it always... warrel dane is the only voice i would ever rank up there among the ranks of the holy DIO.
Quoth the raven; "This band is awesome!"
Why isn't Dreaming Neon Black in the selected discography? ?
saw them in Detroit. Jeff's fingers hit my face while he soloed. it was extreme
Lucky! Where is their next west coast tour?
Just scored my VIP meet and greet tickets for the upcoming Louisville show. Have seen them several times live, they're AMAZING!!
Saw them in Portland!!! Jeff Loomis is a freaking beast!!!!!
LOL-more like cirque de soliel...

I agree. Seeing them 10/10 in Cleveland!
Great band...
my favorite all time band! and Loomis is my favorite guitarist!!! !
The only true surviving metal band in America.
NEVERMORE IS SICK!!!!
Jeff Loomis' 7 string skills are f**kin insane!!
cant wait to c them again! ;>
NEVERMORE RULES!!!!
completely savage band, cant wait to see them in concert again.
joshhatesema i l
Far too many players grab a 7 string to be "heavier" and yet all they do is chug on the low-B and rehash the same riffs as before. The beauty of Nevermore is that Loomis can create some fantastic heavy riffs on the 7 sting.

Check out his solo cd for more tasty playing in the Nevermore style.
Nevermore is godly. I would dare to say that they are untouchable.
Where is Dreaming Neon Black(album) f r o m Nevermore?!! ! ! ! ! ! ! This is a MUST HAVE!! You need to add it, pandora!!
awesome band.. every thing they do.
LOVE how they have In Memory on here. wooooooT!

Jeff and Warren's solo discs are also FANTASTIC.
Nevermore is a fantastic band. Everything about them is amazing.
Best band out
the live cd is the bestn live cd ever this is the greatest band of all time and warell dane flawless
check out his solo project praises to the war machine
Nevermore is redic. At first I wasn't that fond Warrel Dane's vocals but now he is my favorite vocalist. His approach to music is near perfect in my eyes but I just really like that style
Don't like the vocalist much, but the rest of the band is great.
I, Voyager has one of the best solos I have heard in a long time.
I have no love for Warren Dane's vocals, but the rest of the band is so dang good they're still one of my favorites. Been a fan since '05 when I saw them at Gigantour.

The discography seems to be missing Dreaming Neon Black. In My opinion, pound for pound, Riff for riff the best metal band out there today. The Title track from This Godless Endeavor is a work of art.
This could very well be One of the best bands currently in the circuit. Their power, technicality , lyrics and concepts are amazing. Check the Video (last in Line) Amazing! The legend has it that while attending a Megadeth concert the members of the then Sanctuary were blasting their Demo. Dave Mustaine Walked over to check that "sound" and the rest is History! Thanks Dave!

These guys not only have gotten Mustain's attention, but they've toured with Dream Theater (probably not to the co
You are correct about Dreaming Neon Black. One of the unique things about Nevermore is that when they do a cover, it becomes "their song". Example is "The Sound of Silence", a Simon and Garfunkel cover on this album...AWES O M E ! W a r r e l l Dane is definately a wordsmith. They will remain at the top of my list.

Where is Dreaming Neon Black? One of the best concept records ever created.
this band makes you think dane is a poet you need a dictionary on your lap to understand some of his lyrics

Good or bad, these guys have to be one of the most consistent bands out there--even when it comes to tone. Production on Nevermore and the original issue of This Godless Endeavor are a little rough, but the other albums sound nearly identical. It's like they released one endless album disguised as a discography.
The guitar reminds me strangely of Dethklok (At least in 42147)
