The Ocean (Germany)

Originally known as the Ocean Collective, before shortening their name to simply the Ocean, this forward-thinking ensemble from Berlin, Germany, was founded in early 2000 by guitarist Robin Staps, who soon surrounded himself with fellow guitarist Andreas Hillebrand, bassist Jonathan Heine, drummer Torge Liessmann, percussionist Gerd Kornmann, and a variety of individually specialized vocalists, including Nico Webers, Sean Ingram, Nate Newton, Thomas Hallbom, and Carsten Albrecht. Inspired in part by the progressive explorations of Americans Neurosis, and wishing to compose brutal heavy metal containing lighter, atmospheric elements under strictly orchestrated parameters, the group's demos, EPs, and two albums (2004's Fluxion and 2006's Aeolian -- which were recorded at the same session) have been described as "ambient doom soundtracks." The hard-hitting, prog-tinged Precambrian arrived in 2007. For 2010's Heliocentric and Anthropocentric (released just five months apart), vocalist Loïc Rosetti (who actually sings rather than growls) replaced Albrecht and helped to shift the band's focus toward a more spacious approach with larger textural and dynamic shifts. In April of 2013, the Ocean released their most ambitious undertaking yet in Pelagial. Written to be performed as a single 53-minute conceptual work, its various sections virtually interact with one another. The package contained both vocal and instrumental versions of the album. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi

Holy. New find and I'm super pleased. Very interesting.
I reported said mistake and it was fixed. Its why precambrian isn't showing up here.
Just kidding it's just Precambrian and, for some reason, some album by a gospel rock band from the 70s. Pandora clearly made some kind of mistake.
For some reason, Pandora has these guys separated into The Ocean and The Ocean (Germany). They at least have Precambrian and probably more under The Ocean.
The newest album Pelagial, as well as Helio, and Anthro with the newer singer Loic are amazing! I've had Pelagial a month and I've listened to it at least 20 times. These guys are awesome.
Yeah, where is Anthro and Helio?!
Where are their newer releases?
lilill4
just hung out with these dudes all night last night...in Omaha! its amazing to see your favorite band, who is actually Swiss, not so much German, in your basement playing a set!
lol you gotta make a better argument than just saying, "its not heavy, its not good, its not the ocean." I can't say much as i've only just started listening to them a few weeks ago, but i think their new songs have a nice balance of clean and metal vocals. I would agree that some of the songs are relatively less heavy, but i dont think theyre heading in the "bad-less-he a v y direction" lol. Just my opinion so far.
album and they will fire the new singer (who is truly laughable) and get back to Aeolian / Precambrian era Ocean music.

They tried to do way, way.....way too much to fast, too different and it failed miserably.

There isnt ONE good tune on the album.

For a band this badass and with so much potential and talent, please guys......do n t make any more music in this mindset, in this vein ever, ever again......
Wow, no one has posted s**t on this band....? why?

Well - here goes, as a HUGE fan of The Ocean I am sadly posting my colossal dissapointme n t in the new album that will probably never even make it up here because Pandora doesnt even have theier (08-09?) release up here - precambrian.
Simply put the new release -heliocentri c is a travesty. Its not anything like this band has done before, its not heavy, its not good, its not The Ocean....Its not even metal.
I pray it is a one off "wierd trip
SOLID GOLD BABY
Awesome band.
my first time hearing them and OMMFG(oh my muther f**king god)hard driven and brutal ranked up neigh Suicide Silence The Black Dahlia Murder And Through The
Eyes Of The Dead -Jim Jim
What the....

No comments on this bad fukin asss band?
HMMM??

These guys are sweet. Best Prog - Death Metal Band there is. Very intelligent and technical. Like Mastodon with a bit more dark, death metal and straight forward Thrash.
Plus there from Germany, so of course they rock!
WTF?
They dont have thier most recent album in here yet "Precambrian "
Come on guys??
They also have one more album under 'The Ocean'. Pandora, you gotta put them together. There's no need for two pages for one band!
