Old Man's Child

Born in Oslo, Norway under the supervision of guitarist/singer Thomas "Grusom" Rune and fellow ax-man Jardar, the two wanted to create a project that was filled with the bleak lyrical content of modern day black metal and an influence of early death metal. The results were Old Man's Child, who made their debut in late 1993. After eventually inking a deal with the Norway based Hot Records in 1994, their first full-length Born of the Flickering came about later on that year. After a bit of a change in their rhythm section, the re-release of their first demo In The Shades of Life came out in 1996 on a Mini-CD format, digital re-mix and a different packaging was also included. Century Media Records soon took notice and re-issued their first album Born of The Flickering to an American audience. With their next full-length The Pagan Prosperity and a European tour with Rotting Christ and Sacramentum, Old Man's Child's line up was fully in place with drummer Sarke and bassist Blodstrup -both formerly of Tulus. Rune changed his stage name to Galder as well, using the moniker from that point forward. As the wave of black metal continued to flurish in their Scandinavian home territory, Old Man's Child marched along with their third full-length, 1998's Ill-Natured Spiritual Invasion, which was almost entirely performed by Galder. Revelation 666: Curse of Damnation followed two years later, preceding Galder's announcement that he would be joining Dimmu Borgir as a guitarist. Refusing to let Old Man's Child dissolve, he decided to put the project on hold and write and tour with his new bandmates. At the end of 2002, the band came back together with Galder, Jardar and Dimmu Borgir drummer Nicholas Barker to work on a new record. The result, In Defiance of Existence, was released that following January. ~ Mike DaRonco, Rovi

My three month old son loves this song, he gets really into it!!
One of my favorite bands. A totally different style musically!

In my opinion Ill Natured Spiritual Invasion was his greatest achievement. Much like Midian from Cradle of Filth, I don't think it's even possible to record one better. But I hope he not only keeps trying, but actually succeeds in doing so.
Saw them live in Europe a couple of times back in the late '90s... badass.
This is awful
albydarlin
in defiance of existence is a testament to human achievement! ! !
Keyboards sound badass!
Nah!!
They remind me of good times
Love OMC! Changed my gamertag to TheSoulRecie v e r once I heard it.

This is the s**t!
I first heard them on "Blackend III", and have been a fan ever since. They really DO stand out in the genre....
@Old Man Winter: thanks bro, I didnt know they actually do. I'm writing right now
Holy poop shackles! These guys are as evil as a witches vagina!
I suggested Magica and Grand Magus about the same time as Delain. They all popped up a month or two later. To my knowledge those are the only successes I've had. I just did a routine check and sadly I do not see any of my other requests here yet.
Good s**t right here Old Man's Child is amazing. Galder's great in Dimmu as well.
Been getting to know this band better. Not really what I was wanting but still excellent material.
So am I, winter. I e-mailed them about Theocracy but it'd help if others e-mailed as well. What successes have you had other than Delain?
Just send your requests by e-mail to suggest-musi c @ p a n d o r a . c o m I've had a few successes with new bands on here. And many more not so much, but I'm hopeful.
metalhead.pr e s c o t t
How do you do that?
@Mauricio: I suggest that you send Pandora a request to add Ancient to their library. They do listen to our requests.
you're right...noth i n g is perfect (Pandora is not the exception). Was kind of weird for me cos u can listen here to a decent list of underground bands, some of them very rare, new, with no more than 1 album, etc... and you try to look for Ancient, a band who is playing since '92, very important and well known in the black metal scene, with more than 5 albums (2 of them Pieces of art!!) and is not here... :(
There are holes in every music server.
Im lucky to find HALF what i usually listen to here.
but HALF is better than NOTHING.
I ask a question to all the Black metal "community" in Pandora (and maybe to Pandora "owners" too, if they read this). Why there's no Music from the great Black Metal band "ANCIENT" here??
One of the greats.
If there was a "Like" button here, like there is on facebook for that last comment, OMW, I'd click it.
No dude, not a joke. You however ... are.
Yeah, the name infringement was a little funny, but the profile jacking was not.
Plague is correct, I have to give willow a point here for these tho. Quite funny actually. Obviously the horrible riffs part is completely off base.
I would like this, if not for the death metal vocals... I love black metal, but I for some reason can't stand death metal vocals, they just remind me too much of someone burping out the alphabet.
Great band, almost worth getting mentioned in the same breath of Immortal and Emperor.
Great black metal band, and not a bad album! I wish Ill-Natured Spiritual Invasion was on Pandora though, Galder + Gene Hoglan = win.
Im not really into black metal, but I like this so far. Its got some thrash / death metal sounds to it.

The satanic theme is funny.....it s just the genre I guess.....
Old Man's Child has some pretty epic intros.
WAR OF FIDELITY. never heard any drums like that.
the_cadaver
The satanic themes of Dimmu Borgir and Old Man's Child just add to the expression of the music. I'm sure neither band actually goes home and starts chugging from a chalice of blood or anything.

These guys aren't all mindfucked like Mayhem or Gorgoroth. But on the same token, they have to uphold a certain atmosphere.
War of Fidelity whoo!!!
the_cadaver
Galder knows how to write some seriously cool riffs. One of my favorite guitarists for sure.

I don't know one way or another, but that mustache does seem a little too well-trimmed . . .

Old Man = Satan
Old Man's Child is another way to say "Son of Satan"
mode7overwor l d
I can listen to Old Man's Child all day.

I think the name is ridiculous but I love OMC! Baldr f**kin rules!
f**kin metal rules
What the crap is this?
DoomMaker IS A BRUTAL SONG. EVEN THE CLEAN VOCALS ARE COOL. BLACK METAL!
