Oscar Brand is one of the stalwart American folksingers, writers, and interpreters. Over the course of his 60-some-year career he has released 93 albums. He roamed the country with Woody Guthrie, concertized with Leadbelly, promoted folk of all kinds like Pete Seeger, and has hosted the Folksong Festival program on New York's WNYC for over 60 years. Many of his recordings contain parodies on single subjects such as holidays, car songs, or political satire. He is well known for his many collections of bawdy songs. Generally the recording style is simple; Brand and his guitar and a few backup players. Brand's records are totally directed toward the songs. ~ Richard Meyer, Rovi
Not only is Oscar Brand a wonderful performer, always a pleasure to hear, but he's also played an important role in the historical preservation of folk music. Surely he deserves a longer and more detailed write-up here, and more of those 93 (or more) albums made available to Pandora listeners. Many thanks to Pandora, though, for making at least some of them available.
