My 1 year old niece loves it when I sing her this song

It is amazing how so many different songs mean a variety of things to so many different people. Whether its from their own experience and the song is from a particualr time period, or the meaning of lyrics represents something similar to what they have experienced. Sittin on the dock of the bay has a bit of a sad story, but to so many it eans its time to party. I guess it depends on the mood of the listener what it may mean to them.

I heard on the radio that today (1/8) is the 45th anniversary of the release of this song--just a month after Otis' death; it became #1 and stayed there for several weeks; this brought chills down my spine;.I still remember where I was when I heard of his death and I was only about 8 years old
ANOTHER SONG THAT IS JUST WONDERFUL!! Its amazing!- His wife said that the whistling wasnt suppose to be in the final cut of the song. He only did it to fill in for the words he hadnt written yet.-BUt he died before finishing.I cant imagine song without it!
