With his engaging mix of subdued flamenco guitar and South American percussion, rock, jazz, and pop influences, German guitarist Ottmar Liebert's "attitude" actually suppresses the more challenging and "dangerous" aspects of flamenco in favor of the romantic and the stylish. His feel for the music's innate sensuality and a gift for creating memorable melodies helped to bring flamenco to the mainstream. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
Well, whaddah ya know! That's Samba Pa Ti (Samba for you) that Santana does but Ottma / Luna got it pegged. That's muy bonita! A rose by anyother name is still nottah patunia. And now it's Manha De Carnaval! I think I'm gonna blow ah gasket or learn how to spell beautyful. bewteful? bueteful? buwteeful? beautyful? Naw. Damn! darn nice sounging! DMB
It's like my favorite kind of woman who knows how to say NO!....Evertime you ask her if she's had enough! You never ever get enough of Ottmar & Luna. DMB
And cheese us, he's German too! It's like a Spanish vertuoso doing um-pa pah's on the tuba or Swiss Alpine Horn. What's wrong with this picture? Not a gaul-darned thing in my book of uber admiration and enjoyment. DMB
I,m baaaaaaaaaack! Can't get this guy and the others of this style outtah my ed. Hauntingly bueatyful, etherial and aestetic. The percussion with it also is so flawless and appropriate. I can feel the tapping feet, clapping hands and whirling skits that gowith this. Oh! That was me! Never mind. (And I'm not even a girly man!) DMB
.....and moving right along......the Ottmar Liebert I jus hurd was right up my ally, down my street and around my block. How does a German get to play Flamminco that good. It must be something their putting in the sour krout these days. Keep it up. Cooooooooool! DMB
I remember seeing him for free in a courtyard of a San Diego shopping mall when his first album came out - got it autographed. He definitely did a lot to reignite interest in flamenco. He still has his place but I like the harder stuff in most cases nowadays. And for mneltner - let's leave God out of this - if the beauty of Ottmar's music proves there's a loving God then what does Syrian violence, hunger in Africa, and the country of North Korea prove? That God's not that powerful, or just lazy?
