New York thrash quartet Overkill was formed in 1984 by vocalist Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth and guitarist Bobby Gustafson, also including bassist D.D. Verni and drummer Sid Falck. The band garnered a reputation for brutal, pounding speed and technique, but lacked the musical diversity to compete with heavy hitters like Metallica; still, they built up a strong following in the metal underground with albums like 1985's Taking Over and 1988's Under the Influence. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
Great thrash band that never got the accolades they deserve. Quality albums for 20+ years !

What a crappy bio. Overkill started strong and just keep going.

W.Monro....I was at the Syracuse show 4/22/12 another awesome show at Lost Horizon. I was one of the three man helicopter in the pit during Wrecking crew. ...This bio sucks!! Overkill stands up to ANY metal band period. They have stayed true for decades. Hello from the gutter, Years of decay, Horoscope, I hear black, WFO, From the underground and below..... all these, just a few of the great albums Overkill has produced over the many years they have endured.
agreed this bio is a huge disservice to one of the most solid Metal bands ever, but whatever us metal heads know and that's what makes us different than the posers (well one of the many things)
they are also one of the few bands that havent really done anything lame to make more money or fame , ( metallica -orchestra !!) come on , they are just a group of middle class guys like me that love thrash , they invented it they perfected it and they are doing it !!cant wait 4 syracuse 4/22
was introduced to overkill 1985 , saw them live in rochester n.y , been a psychotic fan ever since , seen them 36 times , i live near rochester and have travelled to ohio , va pa and even nyc to see them , they just keep getting better , as far as i am concerned they are much better off not being put into that big 4 bullshit , they are great guys who will actually hang out and talk to you after shows , they are far more motivated than the rest , and they never forgot where they came from
Overkill is awesome. To the person who claimed they sound like a poor man's Testament, you don't know what you're talking about because the two bands sound nothing alike. Both are awesome, though.
What a half-assed inaccurate bio. Rat Skates was the original drummer & on their first two albums Feel The Fire & Taking Over.

overkill is the reason why all the other thrash metal bands got recognized. OVERKILL BEST THRASH BAND OF ALL TIME;. IF YOU ARE A TRUE METAL FAN, YOU UNDERSTAND
These guys are ferocious old school thrash Metal. “Years of Decay” and “Horroscope” are two of my most influential albums of that genre. I am surprised that they have not gotten the recognition they deserve.
What , are you kidding me, this bio should be like 5 paragraphs long!! This is one of THE most influential bands in 80's and 90's metal. Overkill you rule...still. I happen to be one of those rabid fans and I have been to over 30 metal concerts, and about 8 overkill concerts and I can tell you that Overkill is THE BEST live band ever! EEVVVER! #1 Favorite band - Overkill #1 song from Overkill - Elimination.
excellent band that never "sold out". I love it when they get harder the longer they are around. Testament another example of that. These guys continue to rip it up!
since i saw "in union we stand" on mtv back in 87, i knew OVERKILL is the best thrash band by far. each album is a bit differant, with dudes leaving, getting booted, ect but they always kick fn @ss. this lineup is the best...but i miss last drummer(chubby guy dave lombardo fast) and on the drums...Rat Skates. should be in the big 5...Overkill, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Exodus/Metal Church(tie)
Wow! what a BS bio. Clearly the writer doesnt know s**t. Overkill could easily replace anyone on the Big 4 and remind the rest on how to thrash! They are 1 of the best live bands I have ever seen. If you ever get the chance you should see these guys. They will kick your a**!
been a fan since Under the Influence came out when I was in high school. For never having "made it" and getting vrtually NO radio or mtv love, Overkill sure has persisted and never caved in to whatever was"cool" at the time. Almost 25 years and kickin a** like always. True...
Steve Huey needs to do some research on the bands he's going to write bios on. Overkill was formed by drummer "Rat" Skates and bassist D.D. Verni in New Jersey. "Blitz" and Bobby Gustafson came along later.

They are filling the gap left by Metallica and rock just as hard...
Overkill f**kin rules! Sadly, good s**t never gets the spotlight it deserves- look at Anvil, Wrathchild America, Annihilator, Warrior Soul, Monster Magnet, Lordi, Metal Church, Black Tide and Voivod to name just the few.
So true. Even Slayer had a few bad albums. Not Overkill. LONG LIVE the 'KILL!

Simply one of the best of all time... they deserve to be much bigger than they are, especially after staying in the game over 25 years and being the most consistent metal band out there...
