I discovered Pat Metheny in the early 80's. Love at first listen! Saw his group in Santa Fe NM at the Paolo Soleri Amphitheater. One of the best concerts I have seen. Lyle Mays is amazing too!
Methany/Mays stunningly beautiful music that creates a mood like no other, their genius brings tears to my eyes. Also check out John Klemmer and his touch album and Jim Hall, Concierto with Roland Hanna, Ron Carter, Steve Gadd, Chet Baker and Paul Desmond all legends of jazz.
Pat, is no stranger in my musical life.I think it's because of him I'm so passionate about music. I've had the privilege of seeing him perform live and I have to tell you, it's mond blowing. And for Lyle Mays, one word GREAT It's truely amazing to know so many share my feeling about these 2.
I've been following Pat Metheny's career since the late 1970's. I saw him and his band back Joni Mitchell in the summer of 1979 at the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl, then at the Greek Theater a few months later. It was stunning to hear him play with Lyle Mays and Jaco Pastorius there. Then I saw him at the Gibson Amphitheater touring after he released his Offramp album. He is one of my favorite jazz artists of all time.
I have been a big fan of Pat Metheny for a while now, I first became intrigued by his sound when I listened to the album Off Ramp..... Great artist just great!!!
The bio says, among other things, that Pat Metheny's career has . . . .taken some wild left turns. His records with the Pat Metheny Group are difficult to describe, and I have to chuckle a bit. Whenever I have listened to his works I can visualize the strength, the beauty, the subtle and playful as well as the depth of his communication. That is enough description for me to keep me waiting and listening, and learning again from his work!
I have seen Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays live at the Beacon in NYC several times, the first for their As Falls Wichita tour. Even my all top 40 all the time husband was blown away! They are my go-to for just about any mood of music...

When Pat and Lyle play together it is true ear candy magic.
i'VE SEEN EVERY PMG concert since AS FALLS WICHITA, the orchestrion tour was awe inspiring ! And a large thank you to all the great talent you have had around you, but mostly to you for never saying " thats good enough " . Thanks Pat for all the inspiration
The rhythms, sound and feel of Pat Metheny's music is so in tune with my life. In this album with Lyle Mays the musical balance of the Lyle Mays on the piano and Pat on the guitar blend together perfectly.
