Paul Gilbert

Metal guitar virtuoso Paul Gilbert was born November 6, 1966 in Carbondale, IL and raised primarily in Greenburg, PA; he began playing music at age five, and by age 15 was not only touring local clubs with his band Tau Zero but was even spotlighted in Guitar Player magazine alongside fellow up-and-comer Yngwie Malmsteen. In 1984 Gilbert relocated to Los Angeles to attend the Guitar Institute of Technology, becoming an instructor there the following year; concurrently he formed the band Electric Fence, which by 1986 evolved into Racer X. Their debut album Street Lethal appeared later that year, but in the wake of the follow-up, 1987's Second Heat, Gilbert exited to join Mr. Big, which in 1992 topped the pop charts with the ballad "To Be with You." Mr. Big disbanded in 1996, and a year later Gilbert made his solo debut with King of Clubs; Flying Dog followed in 1998, trailed by Beehive Live in 1999 and Alligator Farm in fall 2000. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

Simply amazing.
I was lucky enough to meet and jam with Paul Gilbert, he is not only an incredible musician, he is a gentleman who had no trouble at all spending an extra 2 hours of his time chatting and talking music with fans after the show.
Paul Gilbert is my favorite musician, and I call him that because he writes complete songs; including his instrumental s . I place him in the highest regard above his peers. A humble player and a character on stage, Paul truly encompasses what it is to be an artist and musician. Kudos and hats off to you, Paul.

There's so many angles of PG unlike any other. He's the greatest.
Is Fuzz Universe on here yet? That album is sick!
I like the concept of get out of my yard
His chops just keep getting better and better
Pandora needs to add Fuzz Universe to his Discography! ! ! ! !
Absolute early Trower, good stuff.
davidbusman
Damn good Trower Stuff influence or otherwise
Paul Gilbert can do a wheelie on a uni-cycle.
woke me up from my nap. never heard ofPAUL. great find
Gotta love it. PG really is good, and has a certain unique, multi-genre sound to him, not just metal/shredd i n g . He's got a lot of... funk, maybe?. Anyhow, just so you guys know, his new album Vibrato comes out in the US on the 16 of this October. I've heard some good reviews of it, so I think it's gonna be a worthy buy!

INSTANTLY recognizable PG is KING!!

Paul Gilbert is my favorite guitarist! Melodic, fast, perfect technique and excellent song writing. Check out Paul Gilbert & Freddie Nelson United States CD.... it's kind of pop rock with awesome guitar playing and vocals.
awsome
Paul Gilbert is the M A N. He's got the speed of yngwie malmsteen, but hes not an arrogant piece of crap and he knows how to write music. he realizes that playing guitar is not only about being technically impressive, but also about being musical (thats my excuse for not being able to play very fast lol).
This guy is from my hometown and I never heard of him before tonight: Trower, Hendrix, Satriani, Eric Johnson, Vai all rolled into one..Got to get some more........ . . .

This cat is one BAMF! Love the Racer X stuff, too!
Wow, so much like Jimi. Listening to Radiator on "Get Out Of My Yard"
LOL @ Adam Farrar

Fuzz Universe is a great album and far from what I remember his style to be. I like this one the most.
he's really come a long way from his first album "street lethal"(and I say "album"...wo w I'm getting old).
I'm A ROCK STAR!!!!!
tomatopie34
The fact that he moved from Carbondale probably saved my guitar playing. I grew up there around the same time and if I'd had to play in the same clubs with Paul Gilbert in high school I would've probably just given up playing altogether.

Does anyone know a good plastic surgeon that could fix my melted face?

Just Damn!!!
I see the Hendrix comparison. I'm surprised no one mentioned the Alex Lifeson or Steve Morse similarities too. But then i guess i love all those guys so i hear all my favorites in this mans work.

Very good guitarist.
I read an article yesterday where Bono of U2 said that rock is on the way out. It's too bad that guys like Paul and others can't get airplay or better promotion. But then J Beck, Vai and Satriani have'nt had much luck either. I started to listen to these guys and SRV when hair bands came along. A talented ax man is not a requirement to having a good band these days. Ever notice that Guitar Hero has old music on it and kids love it? Hmm.
GET OUT OF MY FRIKKEN YARD BIOT!!! Paul Gilbert is a SHRED KING!!
I heard he melted someone's face just by playing his guitar. With his teeth.
Pure musical masturbation . Ugh. .
Cross between Trower, Hendrix, Marino.
good stuff.
Clearly a Hendrix sound in there, too. Surprised no one's mentioned that.
I really hate shredders. But I like some of this.
I love how they have the Mr. Big group photo on his bio, couldn't find one of him solo? LMAO
lol on let the computer decide, if you click on the song one of the attributes or whatever is "great musicianship "
who doesn't agree with pandora there?
Definitely the cleanest shredder.
evantaucher
amazing
great article in Guitar World with Paul & Robin Trower, Paul gets to interview Robin, little hero worship, that's cool, Trower & Gilbert are both awesome, I did notice the little Trower thingies in Get out of my Yard
fjtom.va
That would be Greensburg, not Greenburg, PA. And yes, it matters when you happen to share the same hometown. :)
fatherthing
I'll send my chesse to him from on for proper shredding. Tasty!...
stevelong914
I agree with Chris Miheli,
Paul Gilbert's composition skills equal his shredding ability. There's only a few shredders that can write great songs. Mr. Gilbert is right up there with Vai, Satriani, and Morse....... . . . . . and I'll give honorable mention to Neil Zaza, he's written a few great tunes.
has some of the nastiest chops in the business and is an outstanding guitar teacher as well
dpassmor
Rocks.
Paul gilberts work on get out my yard is amazing acompaning his solo frenzy

Paul Gilbert is the best of the so called "shredders" and I say this because he writes some really great rock SONGS along with amazing fret board wizardry!Tas t e f u l , melodic and exciting!!
